Am I hampering weightloss with blood readings of 5.0 mmol/L?

Hi all,

First time on the forum.

I am following a ketogenic lifestyle for the second time, the first being last summer when I lost over 20llbs.

This time around I am being a little stricter and following a slightly cleaner keto diet (less dairy) and I am finding the weight is not moving as quickly.

I use the ketomojo device for testing and for the last 7 days my fasting results are as follows;

AM (14hrs fasted) 5.0mmol/L
PM (2 hrs post last meal) 5.2mmol/L

My understanding is that these readings are too high to optimise weight loss but I cannot work out what to do to lower them?

I suffer from PCOS and have done since I was 12 and keto does help my symptoms significantly.

Do I need to be more patient (lost 2.7kg since 01/02) or is there something wrong?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks
S

There’s nothing wrong with high readings. Once your body learns to use ketones more efficiently, your levels should drop, but for now 5 is great - the fact that they’re there means you’re burning fat.

High insulin levels will prevent lipolysis. Since insulin isn’t readily testable, blood glucose is used as a proxy. Ideally your fasting and postprandial glucose is under 85. The best indicator is the GKI index, the ratio of BG to ketones. Here’s an explanation of it:
