Am I going too hard too soon?

#1

Hey everyone, first post here. This is my second try on Keto. The first one was wildly unsuccessful due to my own ignorance. This time I’m about 4 weeks in and I don’t have the dehydration issues, I’m down about 10 lbs (mostly from the initial week) from my starting weight of 210. I know most of that was water from all the inflammation I was experiencing in my body. The good news is, the bursitis in my hips and shoulder are nearly completely gone. The bad news is, I seem to be gaining weight back and I’m not sure where I’m going wrong.

I’ve started IF on a 16/8 interval around 3 times a week and I also do some hard exercise (jui jitsu) around 3 times a week as well. I eat very little dairy and don’t snack between meals. Total carbs are always below 25 a day and most days below 20. I usually take in about 100g protein and balance that out with enough fat to hit a 75/20/5 ratio. That usually falls somewhere around 2000 cal a day. I’m not necessarily counting, but my app tracks it so it’s hard not to notice. Any help here is appreciated. Not sure which way to turn from here. Thanks!

Maybe. I think meal timing is a more advanced strategy to embrace after keto adaptation.

How have your workouts gone?

As long as you have correct energy levels and feel good doing that keep at it. If your tired and hungry back off the IF until your fully adapted. Also, don’t make this about calories. Seems the 2k cals on workout / exercise days would be a little low. But everybody’s different. If there is no resistance training you may want to dial the protein back a little to see if that stops the weight gain.

Omar, not t2d. Or any type of diabetic.

Chef, ive been normally eating my last meal around 7-730pm on non fasting days and no later than 5 on IF days. Workouts have been much better than my first go ‘round. Im not as explosive but endurance is comparable.

Ifod, i havent been making it about calories, like i said. My app tracks it, so i just notice that its there. Ive been just eating when im hungry which isnt nearly as often and i cant eat quite as much because of how rich everything is. More times than not, when i make a meal i end up saving half of it because i cant finish it all. And as far as resistance training, i do alot of cardio, but jiu jitsu is a grappling art. So when we’re sparring, there is some moving of heavy weight, only its other people and not iron.

Take measurements. See how non stretch clothes fit. Your results may be there and not on the scale. Spend some quality time reading the NSV threads
