Am I eating too much fat?

(Lila Woodfield) #1

Hello everyone
I started slowly transitioning into keto at the beginning of the year and have been around 30 carbs the last two weeks. I’m also intimitent fasting, eating after 12 and not after 8. I’ve been feeling and looking really bloated the last few days. I did have a bit of a binge on some carb killer bars which really upset my gut and maybe I’m still healing from that… That was about 4 or 5 days ago…
I’m mostly eating plenty of greens, plenty of coconut oil, butter, cheese and some tinned fish. My evening meal today was veggies with coconut milk and creamed coconut… I feel a bit too much creamed coconut.
I don’t have scales but by the look of my belly and chin it seems like I’m gaining weight rather than losing it. Am I eating too much?

Hey Lila, I would suggest increasing olive oil and decreasing the coconut oil. If you aren’t fat adapted yet the excess saturated fat from the coconut combined with the liquidation of your adipose tissue can be too much on the body for some people. The bloating is most likely from the carb bars you ate. try a 24 hour fast to burn off the glycogen stores. cheers.

Instead of chugging oil and fasting, have a nice piece of meat and get a little nutrition in you instead.

Hello and welcome Lila.

I agree with @tuggerman84 that the bloating is likely a combination of coconut oil and the carb bar. Some people don’t do well on coconut oil and others have a limit before it starts affecting their digestive system.

Like @Dread1840 said, try eating real food.

It sounds like you’re too focused on macros. Make meals that consist of a veggie, a meat, and a fat (not necessarily an oil). For example, a piece of salmon and broccoli covered in melted cheese. Or tuna salad with avocado on a bed of spinach. Or a ribeye with roasted brussel sprouts and pecans.

It is absolutely possible to eat too much fat if your goal is weight loss.

Are you eating all the fat because you’re hungry? If not, you’re eating too much.

You should focus on keeping carbs low and getting enough protein, and then let the hunger tell you how much more you should be eating.

This! Right here! Don’t eat fat for the sake of fat, eat fat to give your body enough calories to heal, and let your body tell you how much is the right amount.
