Am I eating enough

newbies

Greetings. I changed to a keto lifestyle almost 2 months ago. I am starting this to lose weight but plan on keeping the food apart of my norm once I lose the weight. A lot of the recipes i see online (mainly pinterest) have more protein and carbs than losing weight allows. I figure once I lose i will try those yummy recipes.

I have gotten where I am NOT losing weight after the 1st 10 lbs. I am not discouraged knowing this is my new lifestyle, but I am worried since I have already changed the diet since i started. For the past 2 weeks I cut out dairy and started the 16/8 fasting. I only eat lunch and dinner. Both are high in fats, good fats, moderate protein and low carb. I feel amazing and have gotten past the hunger pains. I have a great sense of clarity, energy and sleep fantastically. However I am not losing any more weight. My cloths are not fitting any looser. Its a bit depressing since I am so strict on what I am putting into my body. I actually have gained a few then got back down to that plateau.

I am worried I my not be eating enough. Is that weird? Is it possible that eating less can make you stay at the same weight?

example meals…

2 eggs cooked in coconut oil with a few tabs of butter, 2 salami slices, half an avacado, and a couple cheery tomatoes.

cooked cabbage in coconut oil with fried up sausage, tabs of butter, brown mustard and an avacado

chicken cubed grilled in coconut oil/butter (like a soup) poured over romaine with cherry tomatoes. no dressing

I have also done hamburger with butter like a soup.

Like I said I eat twice a day. No snacks. I also drink over a gallon of water a day. All I drink is coffee unsweetened and water. I was making bullet coffee but cut that out too since I wasn’t losing weight.

Any advice would be appreciated and not taken for granted,.

Are you hungry? If so you’re not eating enough so eat more. It’s that simple really

Congratulations on your weight loss. As you know water weight comes off first and fast. However, I don’t know enough about your stats to give a opinion. Starting weight and height. Are you insulin resistant? Do you have any other metabolic disorders ? Keto is a healing way of eating. The weight comes off slower depending on who you are and what health issues you may have. Are you keeping your carbs under 20 grams? Net or total is your choice. There are no hard and fast rules about keto. I remember the first time I went keto. Hit a stall and I thought it wasn’t working. My focus was weight loss. So after 3 months and 20 lbs, I got frustrated and tried something else. Gained 10 lbs and more frustration. Went back in December gained 5 lbs but I kept going. Now I lost 12 lbs. Just keep calm and keto on.

Have you used an online calculator to calculate your calories?

  • height
  • weight
  • activity level
  • objectives

Are you monitoring your calories consumed?

Are you monitoring your macros consumed?

How do you know that your body is in ketosis? Are you monitoring in any way?

Plenty of sugar in most tomato’s, be aware.

I stick to a few simple rules:

  • eat until i’m full
  • eat once a day
  • when in doubt add more fat

Keto does not need to be exacting.

I’m not hungry. I have been fasting for 16 hours a day which has curbed my hunger pains. I am just worried since i am not losing anymore. I’ll gain 2 or 3 then go back down 2 or 3. Been this way since the beginning of the month. I have done keto test and pass in the high range of ketosis.

Stick with it, you’re doing fine. Weight loss isn’t always a constant down, there’s always going to be ups and sometimes stalls too.

thank you for the kind words. I feel amazing and plan on sticking with it. I am just worried i am not eating enough. I have read all kinds of information and nothing ever comes up about not eating enough only to much.
I am 5’7 and currently weigh 192 lbs. I was working out 4 times a week and have quit that too thinking that may be why i stalled. ( i have been working out for a long time, even before this change)
the ketosis test i take show i am high in the process too. Its just so weird thats why i am wondering

Are you counting calories at all? Or just keeping track of carbs, etc.

I was counting calories at 1st but it seemed like the amount of calories was astounding. I was at like 2000 or more a day. Since i cut back to only 2 meals a day i dont count. It’s definitely not as much.
the only carbs i eat are in veggies like spinach asparagus cauliflower and brussel sprouts. I treat myself to a tbl spoon of peanut butter every couple days and maybe a strawberry or 2.

Well it sounds like you are doing the right things in my opinion. I would just give it some more time…I know of some people following a keto diet haven’t lost weight for a long period of time but have lost excess body fat or obtained beneficial health benefits they never thought possible.

Also…try not to stress about it…I think sometimes stress is all I need to gain a pound or two…LOL

Dont watch the scale. It is only a number that represents the effect of gravity on your body. In fact you should only weigh and measure once a month. Keto is about getting healthy and feeling better, not necessarily for losing weight, that is a wonderful benefit. Weight didnt go on overnight and wont come off overnight. I did not premeasure, but have gone from size 26 pants to size 20. I dont care how much I have lost. This is my new way of eating forever.

Hi,

I can’t tell from those meals if you have any hidden carbs but that is a very common reason we stop losing.

I got kicked out of keto twice by hidden carbs. One time was with yogurt, I changed brand and bye bye keto. I use a blood analyizer and was shocked it was reading near zero, thought it must be broken, because “who me, hidden carbs, never.”. Oops.

I gained 2lbs that week.

Another time I thought the coffee from the cafe was like mine: coffee + water + milk, nope, theirs is more like a full mug of milk with a touch of coffee. Way more carbs than I thought.

Didn’t gain any weight, just stop losing.

So check and then triple check the basics, often that’s the reason.

(I’m just guessing but I think you are eating enough. Eating too little can be a problem, but so can overeating so check that too).
