Am I crazy?

(Brandy Leigh) #1

Just curious because I’m obsessing over everything keto. I’ve lost 10#s in 2 weeks (water I’m sure) nothing since. It’s been 22 days. I felt greattttt for 2 weeks. Feel a little more tired recently though. Like out of no where I’ll just be done for. And my ketone levels are all over the place. I had two responses saying that normal. But is it ok to fall below .5 once or twice a day?
Are all or any of these things normal? Seems like it from the posts I’ve read. I just really want to do this right. I track macros. I fast. I just want the best outcome possible

TIA!

Yep you’re crazy but that’s ok because we’re all a little nuts lol.
In all seriousness though, you seem to be doing fine. Stressing over every little thing will just increase your cortisol levels and that can be counterproductive.
KCKO

Patience, grasshopper!!! Sounds like you are doing everything right!! Hang in there and trust yourself and the process!!!

@Brandy_Leigh Wow! Definitely not crazy because we are experiencing the same exact symptoms both good and bad. I was also curious if I was alone lol. I am on day 21 and have lost 16lbs maybe all water weight? Not positive I don’t use ketostix. But besides the fatigue I feel amazing. Just wanted you to know you aren’t alone because we MUST be in ketosis❤

Maybe you are fighting a cold or flu and you’re strong enough to fight it off but still feel a little taxed from it? Or maybe it’s about lack of sleep? Or maybe your feel good hormones decided to take a few days off? I wouldn’t worry about it too much. A few days is not a trend and as long as there’s been no drastic change to your diet, then the best thing to do is KCKO.

The answer depends if you are using a breath or blood meter or the pee strips. The pee strips are pretty unrealiable and I wouldn’t trust what you think the colors are telling you.

Here’s an article about a guy who tested his blood ketone levels at various times of the day and how his results varied. I’m faily certain the levels are regulated by when your body thinks it needs more or less ketones for energy or rested states.

You feel will feel tired at times until you are fully fat adapted some say ~6 weeks. This is because your body is used to reaching for the glycogen (I think), anyway your carb energy, and hasn’t gotten used to going for your stored fat

Ketone levels vary greatly throughout the day, it all depends upon how many of the ketones you are using as energy. The more you use the fewer you spill in your urine.

Many people “stall out” after the initial weight loss until they become fully fat adapted, at which point any time your body needs energy it will reach into your fat stores and use your fat. That is when your weight loss will pick up again and your energy will increase.

This noobs limited understanding of the process.

I use a blood tester. I understand fluctuating. I’m just paranoid about being under .5 like I’m not getting best benefits. Hence why I haven’t lost any weight in the past week or so…

A week is not really a stall. There’s plenty of people who went a month or more before they lost any weight at all. It all depends on how deranged our hormones are and how long it takes for them to figure that fat is to be the primary fuel source.

Some things to consider to encourage the scale to move in your favor:

Cut out snacks.

Use a tracker to accurately tally your carb count so you are not overeating them

If your hunger is manageable, you can try eating windows of say from 12:00 to 6:00 PM. The rest of the day, your isulin stays low and your body has more opportunity to use stored fat to maintain proper blood glucose levels.

Make sure you are getting adequate sleep and avoiding stress. Cortisol (stress hormone) can make losing weight difficult.

Consider lowering dairy since some people find that it can stall them. The same goes for nuts which should be very limited anyway.

Don’t overeat fat. It’s encouraged to eat a lot of fat when we start keto but after we adjust to burning fat for fuel, we should back off and eliminate the extras… like extra cheese, extra butter etc. This enables us to burn more of the fat on our belly, instead of the fat in our belly. You could be at that point where a little less eaten fat might benefit you.
