Alternative to “Bulletproof Coffee”

I am one of those weirdos that does not like the taste of coffee. I try to do intermittent fasting, but when I wake up at 4:30 AM and go work out at 5:30 AM, I am starving by lunchtime! I considered a concoction of almond milk, cocoa powder, sucralose, instant coffee, butter and MCT oil. Am I defeating the purpose of IF by taking in a few net carbs from the cocoa powder? The almond milk has 1 gm carbs and 1 gm fiber per cup. My only other thought is to drink a shot of plain MCT.

Assuming that you have accepted that autophogy and most medicinal benefits of fasting have stopped when consuming something that dense in fat, Than I would go at it! A more technical and effective way to approach this for weight loss and more fat burning would be to omit the mct and butter and just do cocoa powder, almond milk, sucralose + SALT and you have my personal beverage I use to break my 18 hour fasts, Though I like to personally use mct powder sometimes if I know I wont get a meal in for a bit longer, than I tend to not use any oils in my diet since I prefer getting my fats from intact sources (Avocados, meat, nuts) that keep me fuller during my fast. (Not trying to lose weight, just fasting for longevity and athleticism)

I skip the almond milk and use coconut cream instead. I use ghee or HWC instead of butter. I add ACV & salt. I use stevia instead of sucralose. That’s my concoction… very close conceptually to yours.

Try to find raw cacao powder instead of cocoa. They’re processed differently and the cacao is more beneficial to your mitochondria.

No requirement to do anything at all. If you’re hungry, eat real food.

you can use a tea as a base. I like roibush vanilla or matcha powder. I never use sweetener though, that increases my hunger rather than reduce it.

I also do not like coffee, but one day my husband tried throwing in an ounce of baking chocolate, which made it drinkable. We use salted butter, which reduces the bitterness, and now he adds just a touch of liquid stevia. It’s not a regular item for me, but for when I need an energy pick me up I have actually come to like it. Other alternatives I use include bulletproof tea, bulletproof cocoa, bulletproof bone broth, and “Rise and Shine Cocktail” which is 1 tbsp MCT, 1 tbsp olive oil (or coconut oil, or butter, in which case you need to melt it) 1 tbsp lemon juice and a squirt of stevia. Of course, all of these are pretty calorific, and I don’t use any of these during a fast, so use with caution.

The definition of a fast is personal. A little fat of the right type has almost no insulin response. Some increase the metabolic rate and cause more body fat to be conveyed into ketones.

So a little MCT doesn’t hurt in my view.
