My wife and I are just starting and learning Keto. Unfortunately for her so many diets have Avocados due to the high fat content but she is allergic. Any suggestions on alternatives to them in recipes?
Thanks - Tom & Martha

Just a thought. Olive, coconut and butter use profusely. I use olive to cook in and top with butter. Go to YouTube search for low carb sauces such as cheesy mushroom, or low carb gravy. Staples here. I can increase fat without increasing protein. There is a creamy Alfredo sauce on the board here. Type it in the search window. Haven’t tried it yet but it looks really good.
Best wishes and welcome.
Depending on how severe the allergy is, you might try a bit after a few months on keto. I have/had oral allergy syndrome for over 20 years before starting keto.
I was allergic to nearly every fruit, many raw veggies (they seemed to be okay when cooked), most nuts, and AVOCADOS.
My friends used to use me to check and see if guacamole at Mexican restaurants was fresh or not. If it was processed/pasteurized, I wouldn’t have a reaction. If it was fresh, I could tell in seconds.
After about 6 months on keto, I have found that I’m no longer allergic to macadamia nuts, and only have a reaction to avocado when I eat the whole thing at once, and even then it’s super mild.
My hubby wouldn’t touch an avocado with a ten foot pole, and has been keto for 6 months. Just look for other fat sources and you will be fine.
Very interesting! I also have oral allergy syndrome but most of the things that bother me aren’t keto (apples, peaches, etc). Now I’m tempted to eat a bite of an apple to see if my throat gets itchy.
I actually did that too. My wife was finishing off the fruit in the kitchen before she started keto a couple weeks ago and I had a wedge… nothing. Apples were one of the worst for me before.
I can’t say for sure that it’s related to keto, but if not, it’s sure a weird coincidence. You’re right though, in retrospect, it’s almost like my system was trying to get me to go keto before I knew what keto was. Now hat I think about it, the raw veggies that I had reactions to were startchy/root veggies; carrots, potatoes.
Ok so I have been keto for a month now and really getting into it. I have been following recipes online and baking. The other day I found monk fruit sweetener at the store I bought it and put some in my tea. the next morning I woke up with a rash all over my face and neck. I think I am allergic to monk fruit has anyone else had a reaction like this to monk fruit?
Well now I’m too curious so I have to find something I can’t eat and take a bite of it. I will report back!
I’m intrigued by the keto connection - it’s supposed to help allergies so I assume that has something to do with it (it looks like we both have birch pollen allergies as the main cause of our oral allergy syndrome even though we have different foods that affect us).
I think if our immune system is constantly being bombarded by carbage, then it goes on high alert with a mouthful of something we have a mild intolerance for.
Once keto reduces the constant alerts, our body downgrades its reactions.
I bet you still have the intolerances, it’s just your body now has the resilience to take them on the chin. As it were.
