Agree to disagree

@dewy333 maybe he’ll watch the butter Bob video?
It talks about health risks of excess sugar (carbs).
Maybe he’ll listen cause it’s a guy? It’s pretty impressive imo

@Bartdorman is right. Statins cause “statin fog/statin dementia”. My daughter’s father has been on them so long now that the cognitive damage is permanent. He’s lost enough function that the gets very angry when anyone points out his lack of logic. Much like an Alzheimer’s patient.

I just say " you might be right" then let it be. I’ll let the person know that I work with my doc and that in the end, I feel better and I need to do this for myself.

I end up saying , I feel better. There’s no argument about that. It ends there.

Many people have mentioned that you may want to get blood work to show your not killing yourself, but more importantly you want to get blood work as soon as possible so you have a base line and then later when you have additional blood work you can see a trend from your new WOE and then it would be interesting to compare your tend line, on important things like trigs and HDL, to his trend line. Although his trend line on LDL may look better to him because of the statins, we all know that that LDL is not a good marker.

One thing to point out is that a growing number of medical practitioners, ranging from “doctors” (MD, DO, ND, and PhD), physician assistants (PA), nurses (RN & ARNP), and dietitians (RD) are switching to LCHF/keto because it works to do things like reverse T2D that the conventional medical establishment considers chronic.

People like the ones listed below to only name a few.

  • Dr. Stephen Phinney, PhD, M.D.
  • Dr. Jeff Volek, PhD, R.D.
  • Dr. Eric Westman, M.D.
  • Dr. Jeffry Gerber, M.D.
  • Dr. Adam Nally, D.O.
  • Dr. Ted Naiman, M.D.
  • Dr. Aseem Malhotra, MBChB, MRCP
  • Dr. Zeeshan Arain

There a many others that I’ve heard interviewed on podcasts and seen in videos.

I had a doctor that was local when I lived near Apopka, Florida USA who was completely LCHF/keto - Dr. George Elias, D.O. that I mention by name since I was a patient, but there’s a growing list of doctors joining the keto revolution.

That being said, my comments are often along the lines of how I reversed T2D by doing the opposite of what conventional medical advice suggested and how a growing number of medical “experts” are adopting this personally and using it with their patients, in addition to the amount research I’ve done.

Asking him how that “normal diet” is working out for Americans, Mexicans and several other countries.

I knew that statins were bad news, but I only happened to read today that, among other things, they can increase the level of Lp(a) in lipid measurements, which (for most people) is not a good thing.

A more well-known “feature” of them is that they reduce people’s level of CoQ10 (co-enzyme Q10), which is also not a good thing.

Will he do you the honour of reading an article about the WoE? If so, can anyone suggest something informative but maybe not too long, that will put SO’s mind at rest. I bet he’s talking to mates and (all of them brainwashed by the Low Fat propaganda), are winding him up.

This needs to be on a t-shirt.

I had a lot of coworkers say the same or similar things (I can’t give up bread, I can’t give up candy/smack/hookers/etc). I usually counter with something like “you’re right. Keep talking that way, and you’ll be amazed at what you find that you can’t do.”

There have been studies that show getting someone to change a deeply held belief is only possible if they can connect emotionally to the other POV, but there other person has to be open enough to take in other information.

Ep. 64: I’m Right, You’re Wrong
There are some topics about which it seems no amount of data will change people’s minds: things like climate change, or restrictions on gun ownership. Neuroscientist Tali Sharot says that’s actually for good reason. As a general rule, she says, it’s better to stick to your beliefs and disregard new information that contradicts them. But this also means it’s very difficult to change false beliefs. This week, we look at how we process information, and why it’s so hard to change our views.

Keto kudos to you for standing up for yourself!! We are all born with free will and the ability to use it–if we think for ourselves, rather than giving our personal power to someone else. While your SO may truly care about your well being, he is also on a power and control trip, basically implying that you are not intelligent enough to make such decisions for yourself. Stay with what makes YOU feel good.

I’m 73, feeling better on Keto than I have for 50 years, no more heartburn, very little arthritis pain, clearer thinking, lost 10 lbs. in the last month. It’s definitely a healthier life style!

Stick to your guns, my dear. Thank goodness you don’t feel a need to be like the subservient little women of the 1959s. You are on the right track!!

My friend is going through the same thing with her S.O. She says it’s because he’s afraid he’ll lose her if she gets thinner. Geez…insecure much?!

#34

What?! That’s just awful!! :rage:

(David) #35

I can understand that a little. It is maybe less the change in weight that might change the relationship, and more the feeling of personal empowerment you get when you take control of your diet that can spill over into other areas of life.

(Tom) #36

This is really apparent advice but we don’t often tell our friends/lovers because we don’t want to offend them. Please allow me to be the stranger on the interwebs who does it for you and your friend:

TO THE PERSON WORRIED ABOUT LOSING YOUR NEWLY SVELTE PARTNER:

WE WEREN’T THINKING OF TRADING UP UNTIL YOU STARTED BEING A TOOL. IF YOU WANT US TO STAY AROUND, LOVE US, APPRECIATE US, SUPPORT US, BUT DO NOT FARK WITH US.

STILL WORRIED? HOW ABOUT YOU WORK ON BEING THE SORT OF PERSON YOU THINK WE’D LEAVE YOU FOR? WOULD YOU STAY WITH YOU IF YOU ACTED LIKE YOU?

/end caps

So now you can show your friend, send it around, whatever you like, and since you didn’t say it there’s nothing for them to immediately get defensive about.

And…if he’s not a reader The Big Fat Surprise is available on Audible and is a good listen…

(Omar Newsome) #38

Well said!

(Vivian) #39

I’m going to update my Facebook account with this as my religion.

(Candace) #40

Wow! You’ve already been given such great advice! I have nothing really to add. My husband follows Keto. He’s always been good about following what I do, and since I do 99% of the cooking, he really doesn’t have much choice. LOL

Basically, the proof is in the pudding. He will see your results, and he will not be able to deny them. Having him read the books, watch the documentaries, etc. is excellent advice. That Sugar Film and Fat Head are both documentaries that -helped me with my choices. The Big Fat Surprise (listed above) and Keto Adapted by Maria Emmerich, are very informative books, also - anything by Gary Taubes.
