Ok I’m new to Keto and just started Monday. I’m doing ok with my carb instake, staying below 14g a day (except one day i went up to 34g). My calorie intake, fat intake, and protien intake are always just a little over what Carb Manager is telling me I should have. How bad is this? Am I ruining my efforts here??

Also any information on this MTC oil I’ve seen people discussing would be appreciated. I ordered some pills but I’m not sure what they will do for me??

With all that above, if i stick below 14g carbs daily, only drink water (i was a sweet tea every single day drinker!), and have absolutely no sweets… i should see some changes in my weight yeah?

Thanks

Why 14? My plan - prescribed by my doctor - is 20 whole (not net) per day. I’ve certainly gone above that so that I can have half an avocado when I feel like it (also ok on my plan). I follow “Page 4 Keto”.

MCT oil is a little controversial on the Page 4 plan as the high fats should come naturally from whole foods (like avocado, limited cheeses, heavy weight cream (HWC), meats and butter and oils). I do put some in my morning coffee sometimes when I need to “get things moving” if you know what I mean. It can have that effect.

Thanks guys!

Idk but 14g is what my carb manager app told me I needed to stick to. I guess with my weight and height?I’m 5’2" and started at 250. Have lost 6 lbs but gone up and down all week. So im not really counting any weightloss until a few weeks pass.

Everyone’s body responds differently and has different carb tolerance levels. I keep my NET carbs at 5% of my caloric intake (generally below 20g) which means there are days my total carbs are up in the 30’s and 40’s but I stay in ketosis (.8-3.0). If your not seeing expected results I wouldn’t be too afraid of playing around with that 14g number a bit.

MCT oil is a concentration of the medium chain triglycerides in coconut oil and can be readily metabolized into ketones. I’ve used it for bulletproof coffee but now I just get most of my fats from other Whole Foods.

I saw results after cutting out sugar and staying below 50g carbs per day. After about a week I not only noticed 2-3 pounds of weight loss but more importantly, I was noticing my energy levels were much more consistent. Carbs for fuel is such a roller coaster of energy levels… highs and lows and full of cravings. Anyway, I was 50g per day for about a month and switched to 20g a day and I’m down about 25 pounds over two months total, and I’ve never felt better. Hope you discover the same results.

As for MCT oil, I’ve done a lot of reading on it and coconut oil and for every 5 good articles/videos on them, there’s 1 bad one. I tend to lean toward believing it’s good for you, because people in the tropics have been using CO for a long time and in general, their rates of heart disease and diabetes are significantly lower than the rest of the world. I don’t use MCT oil, but I do like a teaspoon of CO in my morning coffee, except when I am fasting. I also use CO for cooking a lot of my meals.

And welcome to Keto.

Welcome to keto.
First advice: relax. For most ppl it took a while to put in weight ad it will take a while to loose it.
For the rest: try to keep the carbs as low as possible and the rest as you feel. Macros are guidelines so If you are a little over or under it is not a big deal. The most important it to get you fat adapted. Then you will have a chance to get to know how to burn your own fat and feel energized.
MTC oil: l never had it and lost weight! I’m using just a regular coconut one instead and am just fine. Maybe my focus could be sharper but l’m OK just like that. Also l’d use it only in a BPC which in my case is not a 600 kcal liquid meal but something like 1t coconut oil and 2t butter (around 150 kcal tops).

Thanks. Since I’m new and don’t really know much about it all yet I was trying to just worry about my carbs daily…but multiple people told me that if my protein was high it was all in vain. So since my carb manager app told me I only need 70g protein daily, and I always go above that, I was worried. I don’t go over a crazy amount but I find it hard to stick to 70g.

Hi from a fellow (former) sweet tea drinker! My first day of keto, I actually went to bed thinking “I don’t know if I can do this” simply because I wanted some sweet tea. But today is day 6…not a lot, but the desire/habit for sweet tea hasn’t reared it’s ugly head since that first day.

I’m doing “Day 4” keto also. No tracking and I honestly don’t worry about grams of anything. Today, I’ve had 2 eggs, a strip of bacon, and some sauteed kale. I’m one of those people who actually LIKE kale. LOL I haven’t eaten so little because I’m restricting…I just waited until I was hungry (~3pm) and then chose the protein and veg that seemed appealing at the time. If I think about eating right now, it’s more of a “yuck, no way” feeling so I did eat to satiety.

So my only advice might be to quit watching the app. If you’re hungry, eat fatty protein, fat, and low carb vegetables and eat enough until you’re satisfied. Give yourself at least a few weeks of just listening to your own body’s signals to see how that works out.

Then why did you order them?
