Advice for when I break my fast

Hi, all!

I’m currently in the middle of my first five-day fast (Monday 1/22 through Friday 1/26), and I want to ask you all: What’s your favourite way to end a fast? Something light, like a soup or a salad? BPC? Or have you felt alright with something on the heavier side such as a steak and cruciferous vegetables? I understand that everyone is different and we each have our own tolerances, but I just want to accrue some ideas for when I do break my fast.

Thanks in advance!

I would break it with something you personally find to be easy on the stomach, and not likely to upset it. If soup does that for you, eat soup…

You just want to avoid anything that is challenging to the digestive process because it’s got to get back to working “normal” again.

I asked the same the other day whilst doing my first fast. Brenda provided me some good detailed info in the January zornfast thread. I think it was post 311 or in that neighbourhood if you’d like to go have a look over there. Interestingly, eggs were ixnayed LOL.

I like olives.

I’ll check that thread out in a bit. Off the top of your head, do you know why eggs weren’t optimal?

She said something about the enzymes can negatively affect certain people. I broke my fast with eggs, no issues. But, you won’t know till you know.

I broke my 3 week fast with bone broth. Was really sick to my stomach, run to the bathroom sick. Next day I tried again, bone broth, then olives waited…then some salami, cheese, sauerkraut. I’ll do the same when I end this fast. I’ll just plan to stay close to home on the first refeed day. It’s important to refeed appropriately as you can undo all the good of the fast did if you don’t.

Just that apparently eggs frequently don’t sit well with people as a first meal.

I agree. I broke this months Zorn fast with eggs (unintentionally, I was making egg salad for the following day and without thinking, dug right in) and I felt sick the rest of the day. I’ve tried salad, but I was glad I was home… that should be enough details for that.

Fat seems to be the easiest/gentlest for me.

I start with olives, sometimes macadamia nuts, slice of cheese or a piece of bacon. Then wait an hour & have a regular meal. Otherwise I risk disaster pants :scream:

You can research the recovery from surgery, restarting the digestive system,

Just start slowly and softly.

Sorry I am just a tech geek that had to link it. Call me neurotic if you want. :joy::joy: But maybe the next one will be glad I did

Thank you for that. I’m starting day 3 of at least a 5 day fast. want to step carefully forward when I decide to break it.

Me too, anything from 2 days upward it’s always a disaster when I refeed.

I just completed day four and not sure how long I will go on, still feel perfectly fine.

I know I have to refeed on mornings or lunch hours and stay home for the following 4 hours. (otherwise I will have to brace myself to spend the night on the throne).
I know my guts hate nuts when i am fasted.
Broth I am not sure, I might try the vegetable soup. just not sure what kind of vegetables. I might try mushrooms…

Yup got that several months ago. Up to week long fasts at this point and 15 pounds from goal. the elusive last few lol.

I regained most of it through winter (at least 10 pounds were lean mass) . That awful cold…
Now getting back on the horse.
