Active carbs

(Jeff Ryan) #1

Hi guys,

Everytime I try something new I keep getting told to watch for active carbs while being on a carb diet. I did a bit of research on Google but i haven’t had much luck.

How do I find the active carbs on the ingredients list?

How does this active carbs work? And how do they get you out of ketosis?

I’ve never heard of “Active Carbs” before. Do you mean Net Carbs? If so, that’s Total Carbohydrate grams minus the Fiber grams.

Never heard the term either.

Nope not the net carbs but apparently the active carbs doesn’t show on the macros. So I’m not sure. Maybe it’s a myth lol

Active seems to mean how much it raises insulin. Low active carbs raise a little; medium raise it more

Oh so like sugar alcohols and sweetners.

Some sugar alcohols and sweeteners are not metabolised at all (like erythritol and sucralose); others have some insulinogenic effect (like maltitol and ace-k). So just bunching them all as active/inactive carbs would be meaningless!

I have never heard of this before. I’m wondering if that is the same as net carbs but also minus sugar alcohols or something. Did a Google Search for you but I’m not seeing anything.

Yes I’m not sure myself. Maybe their is no such thing.
