About 3 weeks in - Dairy Question

(Dawn) #1

Hi there. Every year I do Whole30 and so there is no dairy. I decided to try Keto as I liked the sound of it and it made sense to me. However, I know dairy is allowed and is it encouraged? Not sure…should I start incorporating dairy into my diet? If so, what kind?

Thanks!
Dawn

Some people do fine with dairy, other folks have issues with it, whether it’s a sensitivity, or maybe an inability to eat just a little. Some folks are fine with butter others need to use ghee which lacks certain proteins that butter has. It’s toally individual. I think all the time about going dairy free to see if I notice improvements (in skin, weight loss, hormones, stuffy nose issues) but I have not pulled the trigger yet, lol.

If you do have dairy make sure it’s full fat, like heavy cream instead of milk. And check cheese labels for hidden starches and fillers, often pre-shredded cheese will have extra junk.

I use heavy cream in my keto coffee and louts of cheese in quiche or omelets. No ill effects on me.

Thanks. I use ghee, coconut oil and other “good fats” to make up for it but I do love heavy cream. I have to get over the mindset that on Keto it is “not cheating.” Partially I am also a little afraid I might over do it because I really do love cheese!

I can understand that! See how it goes. Heavy cream is fantastic. I do have to measure it carefully into my coffee & mix it with like, coconut oil, or I can easily overdo it.

Its a hard truth but I would reccomend just using yeast as a cheese sub and almond milk as HWC sub, I suddenky lost all my belly bloat after I cut it out and my abs finally show at 15% body fat

I was having stuffy nose issues and I suspect it was the cream. I was using about 4 table spoons. Back off for a couple of weeks then reintroduce a smaller amount 1tbl. That worked no more stuffy nose.

The more I learn about what dairy is and how it’s made, the more convinced I become that consumption should be limited for optimal health. Many folks have sensitivities that are subclinical. But even beyond that, the process that corporations use to create dairy products seems wrought with chemicals and byproducts that are undesirable.

I am learning to make avocado, flavored mayo, nut and seed based fatty sauces and using coconut milk instead of cheese and creme based sauces.

There’s a lot of dairy in my diet and I’ve lost tons of weight doing keto

see what happens when you remove it and eat a hell lot more nuts and I GARUNTEE you will reach primal ketosis!

I mix 1 tbs, butter, cocunut, small peice of dark chocolate and heavy cream with coffee. I put it in my nutri bullet and it is the most amazing coffer.

Nah…

I eat (a lot of) dairy and have lost 70 lbs so far (with a long way to go). Mainly because I was never a big meat eater, although my tastes are now changing. But I’m aware I may have my weight loss stall out at some point down the road and I’m not ruling out the future need to eliminate dairy. Though… all the beautiful cheese!

As the other replies indicate, I think this is a very individual thing. You may need to experiment a little to see what works best for you.

Good luck. And Keto on!
