A little freaked out

I think it is critical to understand that the starvation hysteria is generally based on people who are not fat adapted. So it is hard to integrate those concerns with ketogenic way of living. The classic starvation experiment done in Minnesota fed men a calorie restricted yet starch based diet that was the food used to feed the armed forces. The research studies generally cited to prove the starvation side of theory are short in duration, and never allow a person to get to fat adaptation before fasting. So it is not just about under eating. And I think the research is sloppy and generalized inappropriately.

I was terribly disappointed with Phinney’s attitude about fasting. And I know his opinion is revered in the LCHF communities.

It is easy to get apprehensive. All I can offer is encouragement to keep questioning, experiencing, challenging and being willing to be perplexed.

Isn’t this moreso for someone who is fat adapted though? Before starting keto, I definitely underate. It impacted my health and caused me weight gain, etc. Even when I first started keto in December, I have to increase my intake for a bit. Now that I’ve crossed the fat adaptation threshold, at about 6 weeks in, I can see how having less than 1600 calories doesn’t have the same impact on me as it did pre-fat adaptation.
