A few exciting things

I’m about 10 weeks into keto. There’s a few exciting developments for me, which I think many of you all can identify with…

It’s been really fun trying new foods and recipes. I was cooking quite a bit before keto but cooking even more now. I’m eating sardines, pork rinds, and all kinds of crazy things I would not have considered before keto.

Before keto I was tired and achy every day and could never get enough sleep. I told my husband depressingly, I could not Invision a time when I would no longer feel that way. But, with keto, I have energy now and feel better. I can enjoy my life, pets and property more.

I’m able to fit into some of my old clothing again. I have some beautiful clothes I really enjoyed wearing. I am hoping to continue my progress and be able to wear more of my old clothing.

Before keto I feared I was on the fast track to diabetes, heart attacks and dementia. Now I have hope that I can live a long, healthy life and more importantly - be able to keep my mental faculties.

I ordered a keto mojo tonight, and I’m pretty excited about that. I ran out of blood glucose test strips and instead of buying more decided to go for the keto mojo. I’m graduating from the ketone urine test strips.

I’d like to get mine back…

My mom had diabetes, double bypass and developed dementia, so I’ve been pretty worried about my own health future. And with continuing to put on fat, especially around my mid section, despite working so hard to lose weight…

Well, now I know why it wasn’t working and what WILL work, I have hope for the first time in a long while.

Just wait until you add fasting to the mix.

I accidentally ended up doing a 24h fast the other day. Supper the night before early at about 5.30pm and then up and rushing around all day full of energy (if a tiny amount of growling in the stomach) until I realised I hadn’t eaten all day and felt great. Before keto if I so much as skipped breakfast I’d be almost falling over by mid morning!

I felt the same way Kristen. Every day was a struggle to make myself do the things that I had to get done and now everything is so much easier.

I think it’s unfair for all the carb zombies to not know about how eating this way can greatly improve your quality of life and that’s why I find pleasure in trying to help and encourage new forum members. I’m a bit leery of telling people about keto in real life, at the risk of sounding preachy and that’s very easy to do when you are speaking to people that have addictions they don’t even realize they have. I was one of them and 5 years ago, I would have told my new self, don’t you dare tell me I shouldn’t gorge on fried chicken and potatoes.

Thanks for sharing your story. It really made me smile.

That’s great news Kristin, I’m glad you are enjoying your new WOE.
I will tell you now before your meter arrives though - do not get overly concerned with these numbers.
Blood Ketone Monitors and Test Strips fall redundant after fat adaption, they are not overly useful for those wishing to achieve weight loss. Some people like to chase these numbers and freak out when they don’t get the desired levels. If you are continuing to feel great, then keep doing what you are doing!
Don’t go changing things because “I can’t get a reading higher than 2.0mmol, I am going to make these changes to see if I can get better numbers” - It’s a recipe for disaster.

Yes! I bought urine test strips in the hopes of tracking my ketosis…only to be sorely disappointed after a while!

Good points.

I don’t remember what doctor was saying this, but he was saying if you are registering blood ketones (doesn’t matter the level), you are good - insulin has to be low. I’m going to follow that way of thinking.
