8 weeks in. Some Keto "Victories"!

(Bill Pratt) #1

I guess the purpose behind this post is twofold? I’m posting it to encourage some of the people in their first few weeks that are “discouraged”, and I’m posting it to keep myself encouraged and list the positive effects and benefits that I have had since starting this keto lifestyle. (I guess kind of like making a gratitude list?)
Here goes:
Quick backround-
47 year old male, 5’8",weighed in 8 weeks ago at 201. Currently 190. Exercise daily. (15 minutes calisthenics) and I run 3 miles 5 days per week. Doing Keto with my wife of 24 years. We have 5 kids ages 10 to 22. Keep under 20 grams and macros have been 75/15/10 pretty consistently. Love the food and love the lifestyle. There. Nuf said!

  1. I have lost 11 pounds in 8 weeks (not amazing but not bad. No weight loss last fee weeks)
  2. I have lost 8 cm (3.15 inches) off waist👍
  3. I have gone from size 38 to 34👍
  4. Gas and bloating 100% gone. (not sure why… But awesome)
  5. Seborrheic dermatitis is gone. Not sure why? Dry itchy skin in beard and side of nose and Eyebrows. Completely gone. I’m not questioning it.
  6. My shoes fit better. Again, not sure why but I posted a thread about it a few weeks ago and some people had same thing
  7. Energy lever is best it’s been since I was in the Marine Corps.
  8. I have not been “HUNGRY” like I always had been. It took about 5 or 6 weeks for this to be noticed.
  9. My sleep is better than it has ever been. Especially the last 3 or 4 weeks.
  10. When I go to scratch my back I don’t brush against the big love handles. And I seem to have lost the “back fat” in the middle of my back, of there is such a thing.

So again, this was a quick list (there is more) to encourage those who are a few weeks in feeling like the scale isn’t moving. Been there. It’s frustrating. My scale hasn’t moved in a few weeks now. But I feel amazing! I needed this list for myself as well. I’m going to copy and paste this list to my noes and read it daily. And add to it. Have a great day everyone!

Bill, those are great results of all varieties! There’s a lot of good things that seem to come along with Keto other than weight loss, and I’m glad you’re able to appreciate those things. Sometimes it’s honestly worth it just to feel better and sleep better. It’s been 22 days for me starting today, and I’ve noticed many of the things you’ve mentioned as well. I don’t weigh or measure myself (personal preference), but I can feel more energy and Im starting to sleep better, too.

You’re doing great, keep up the good work!

I, too, love how I feel eating this way. The 60-lb. (27 kg) weigh-loss has been a nice side effect, mind you, but my primary reason for going keto was to heal my metabolism, which I’ve done.

I got into this way of eating from running across Dr. Lustig’s lecture on fructose one day on YouTube. (Diabetes runs in both sides of my family, and I was addicted to sugar, so it was only a matter of time. Dr. Lustig put the fear of fructose into me.) But after I’d been in ketosis for about a year, blood tests revealed that my metabolic numbers were all back in the normal range. It would be really nice to lose another 60, but having a healthy metabolism keeps me happy, whether I ever lose another pound or not.

Congrats once again Bill!

Removing processed foods can correct a lot of things we wrongly accept as personal defects in our physiology. My constant sinus issues, dry flakey scalp and periodic reflux are all gone and I credit the removal of processed foods.

Even our feet can store fat so losing weight down there can make our shoes fit better.

Wow Carl… Thanks! I can add 2 more. My sinus issues have gone away, and my reflux has gone away. I wasn’t even paying attention to that. I guess my list has 12 now
