71 years young female Newbie needs tips on how to have KETO work optimally for a 71 years young female

I am 71 years young and a life long dieter. KETO is the BEST thing for health and well-being. I’m convinced after doing much research over the past month. I now weigh 188 after being on KETO since 12-21-18…a loss of 10 pounds. Need to lose at least 50 more pounds.

I think the most important factors in my questions are 1) my slow metabolism from being a life long dieter 2) my older age of 71 years old.

For many years, I’ve been a slow loser. I’m still losing slowly, and have been doing intermittent fasting/OMAD almost from the beginning.

I am a Dr. Berg fan - and I know many on this forum are not Dr. Berg fans. I’ve learned a lot from his manyYouTube videos and from the Keto / IF membership group I joined. Haven’t been cheating and have been eating lots of spring mix salad greens, and probably have mostly been at around 20 grams of carbs, possibly up to 30 carbs. My fats have been good - Dr. Berg recommends 20-40 grams of fat per meal.

I am getting tired of the spring mix, but will do just about anything to get this weight and to get HEALTHY. Don’t have diabetes or any health problems. Just the weight issue.

Why do you KETO followers who are in their 70’s and older think my weight loss is slow? Since I’ve dieted so much, my metabolism is VERY slow.

Have any of you 70 year olds +++ figured out how to lose weigh on KETO like a 30 year old … LOL ?/ What tips can you share with people in our age group - 70 years old and older? P.S. I’m repeating 71 many times because I know most people will not read my age and skim over that, which is the most important reason I’m posting this.

Welcome Emily!

I’m glad that you found Keto and this forum. There’s plenty of support and much you can learn here.

Most of us who arrive here do so with deranged hormones and far from ideal metabolisms. Fortunately, eliminating sugar, eating fat and protein and restricting carbs is the best thing you can naturally do to repair those things. While your age might require you to be more patient than others, I’m confident that you can do this successfully.

Dr. Mark Hyman discusses repairing metabolism in the article below. As you will see, going keto is a big part of his recommendations:

Most of us have our favorite keto experts but it’s not a terrible thing to deviate from some of their protocols or even to mix and match with the advice of other experts. Sometimes a different perspective can push us in a slightly different direction and yield us better results.

Seems pretty clear then.

okay so you’re burning out on salad, stop eating it. Cooked veggies are fine. And Dr. Berg’s vegetable amounts, 7-10 cups if I am correct could be cooked down as with leafy greens to a much smaller volume. I think you should just mix up your daily eating routine some. I don’t know what you are eating now but I think keto is very different from anything you’ve tried. Stay with it and you will find your way to success.
