70/30 For the WIN!

hamburger

I finally went shopping for myself, which is what I do when i nothing KETO left to eat. My wife who enjoys shopping usually buys my Keto-stuff, but it isn’t usually Keto-enough. Specifically when she buys Hamburger. It’s the Healthy stuff, you know 90/10 (90 percent lean, 10 percent fat) occasionally she will get 80/20, BUT I went and bought some 70/30! HOLY SCHNIKES! Tastes like STEAK when done on the BBQ. Lot’s of smoke and they were so delicious! I would say 70/30 is the best!

It’s actually hard for me to find higher than 80/20 fat. I finally discovered I have to buy it in those plastic tubes.

(LeeAnn Brooks) #3

And Costco doesn’t carry it all all.

(Carolus Holman) #4

YES! Plastic tubes of meat! CHEAP! So good too!

(Pete A) #5

No contest, agreed!

(Carolus Holman) #6

Kroger has 'em. I think mine was $7.00 for 3#'s (1.5 kilos?).

@Carolus_Holman 70/30 is awesome. We’ve been known to add bacon fat to 80/20 with excellent results. I see no reason why your wife’s 90/10 could not be made to be wonderful with bacon fat too!:sunglasses:

(LeeAnn Brooks) #8

I did that too, then wrapped it in bacon. Soooo good!

(Carolus Holman) #9

I have tried turning 90/10 into something good, but the meat is usually so dry I barely get it down my throat!

I agree with that completely. I have resorted to grinding my own and adding the fat. I run a 60/40 ratio and love it.:stuck_out_tongue:

(Carolus Holman) #11

That is OFF THE HOOF! lol.

(Marta Loftfield) #12

So sorry, dry meat is the worst. Do you have a meat grinder? Or a kitchenaid stand mixer? If you have the stand mixer you can get the meat grinder attachment. I make my own sausage, ground beef, etc. My favorite thing to do is buy whole tenderloins. Cut into steaks, stir fry meat and ground tenderloin with tons of fat.

Buy a really fatty roast and grind your own.

You know, I have always preferred chicken over beef for tacos. Someone just posted making taco shells out of cheese that looked really good.

You just gave me an idea for grinding chicken thigh meat with skins to up the fat.

(Sophie) #14

This is exactly what I do. I’ve got a vintage Hobart Grinder attachment for my Kitchenaid. I love getting the fattiest chuck roasts I can get my hands on. My hamburger is always tasty.

You should have seen the butcher’s face when I asked him for animal fat… “you want WHAT???”
I don’t think anyone had ever asked him for this before!! They did find some, but I think they all thought I was bonkers!! :joy::joy::joy:

I found out they sell chicken skins by the case. I was joking around with the meat manager at my store and was a bit surprised when he dead seriously asked me if I wanted to order a case.

Now I need to find a local Keto friend to go halvsies with me, cuz I just can’t bring myself to devote that much freezer space to chicken skins.

My favorite meal at the moments is a tube of 70/30 cooked up, 3 or 4 eggs over easy, salt & hot sauce. Mix & enjoy. I also make sure to add the fat that renders out in the pan. Dear God, it’s filling & delicious.

(Raj Seth) #18

Damn. I can’t get chicken skins around here. Went
To all the butchers and even the meat packer near me. No one can get chicken skins. At $1/lb. not worth shipping either

(Raj Seth) #19

Which store. Which town. I’ll go halvsies, heck I’ll go full-size

(LeeAnn Brooks) #20

It was my Costco. It isn’t something they carry, but you can order by the case.
