First Post here in the Keto Forums - I found this great resource as I binge listened to the 2 Keto Dudes Podcast for the better part of a month now…
My Keto Journey began around September 1st of this year (eased in over about 2 weeks time). An old buddy of mine went Keto earlier this year and shares his Journey on Facebook. He is down 90 pounds since January of this year and his story was inspiring especially since I knew him personally - plus the food he was posting was right up my alley!.
My journey so far: I am 6 weeks in and I am 12 pounds down towards my goal of 60 pounds. Already down at least a pant size and am in need of punching some new holes in my belts. Mentally I feel the best I have since I can even remember and my moods have significantly improved (even at my job!). I am also confident my body is experiencing a reduced level of inflammation as my knees and especially my lower back pain has been greatly reduced. I also sleep better now than I ever did. One surprising feat I accomplished 2 weeks ago was a 14 mile bike ride during one of my first 18 hour fasts. I was a bit blown away by the energy I was able to maintain through it.
I started out tracking macros for about the first 4 weeks, then took a 2 week break and tried to eat intuitively. I have since gone back to tracking as I think it still serves as a good educational tool for me. I have experienced some carb creep in that my carbs have been up around 30-40 grams these past few days. I am hoping to dial that back in with the help of tracking and just re-educating myself on sneaky carb sources. (milk was a huge one as I never realized the amount of sugar in it). My hope is to carry a 1# loss/week from here on out - that seems reasonable to me.
I have dabbled with the keto strips (urine) even though I know the accuracy and correlation to blood levels isn’t there. I am hoping to purchase a keytone blood meter in the near term (will be combing the threads for recommendations). This Friday I have a meeting with my PCP to provide him with the low down about my journey. I am hopeful it will be a good conversation as he is very down to earth.
So far this forum has been a great resource to me and I hope to contribute more of my lessons learned from my experience in the near future.
BTW - Why am I just now learning about Fat Coffee? I have been missing out for far too long!
