6 Months In!

#1

I just wanted to say hello. I am 6 months in so far since Feb this year. My husband has been in ketosis for almost 10 years…before ketogenic was a word. He experienced massive weight loss and was very successful with turning his life around. He leads a fairly intense active lifestyle now. For me, I started because I was concerned about my sugar consumption. It was a bit out of control in the past few years and several people in my life commented I may be diabetic or pre-. I never looked into it but gave this a shot with everything I had. The first month was very rough but it got better and better.

At this point I’m happy continuing on it and am always looking for recipes using healthy fats (avocados etc) so that’s how I found this place. We love camping and hence my name campwoman. Anyway thank you for having me!

Now that is impressive! Welcome! We can certainly benefit from you guys’ experiences.

Thank you!
He started with the Atkins Diet ( I don’t know the Atkins much) but he describes the first part and he never got off the first phase. He stayed on it for a full year, less than 20 g net carbs, and then continued on the same for all the years since.

Good for him! That’s why it makes sense to talk about the ketogenic/Atkins lifestyle and not diet

Ah thanks for correcting me. I agree! I don’t know a lot of lingo and am still super new. I still squint at everything in the grocery store and spend hours trying to figure meals out! Having him helps so much though. He’s always guiding and helping me out.

At 6 months in, you’re hardly a newbie yourself! But it can be difficult figuring stuff out in the grocery store. As a general guideline: don’t go through the aisles, as these pretty much are 95% processed carbs. I usually get all of my stuff by shopping in the “outside shelves”

What great advice. We also generally buy raw and uncooked/unprepped meats. The fruit and veg section is also a place where I’ve learned to be wary. There are so many options if you know how to look though!
