3 Year Keto, but gaining back weight fast

(Karim Wassef) #22

I don’t see a lot of fat there and the calories don’t look very high…

If you don’t eat enough, your body starts to reduce your metabolism.

If you also don’t move enough, it doubles down on a lower metabolism.

Everything slows down, including any weight loss momentum.

I’m curious, was the alcohol sugar containing? Initially I lost about 4 lbs (didn’t really need to lose, but was happy with that all the same), then 9 months in and more Keto than I started, I’ve gained a total of 6 lbs so up a net 2 lbs. its frustrating me. I do drink dry white wine in the evening, and not the perfect female 4 oz glass. I’ve been wondering if this has been affecting me.

My opinions and thoughts:

  1. If you get really hungry during fasts, you don’t sound fat adapted.
  2. The meal you show us looks like low fat to me
  3. You’ve mentioned mozzarella and cream as the only fat you are eating?
  4. Have you measured your carbs? How many grams per day?
  5. What was your regime when you lost weight first time round? How much were you eating?
  6. Do you know what your body fat would be? If you are big framed, and 6’4”, 260lbs may be where your body wants to be.
  7. How many meals a day are you eating?
  8. It is possible that you may have lowered your metabolism by surviving on lower than required calories for a long time losing weight to 240lbs (The Fastest Loser Complex). Your pattern and your current eating supports this theory.
  9. I would up your fat, remove the veg, drop protein shakes. And make sure you are eating to satiety and no further.

I don’t drink really, I tend to avoid it at all cost. If I had to give you a number of drinks I would say 1-2 light beers a month or Sparkling water with Tequila. Again I drink only socially, so I don’t drink often. Thanks for the help.

1)I am used to fasting for an entire day its only when I do longer than one day. Normally by day two my body get hungry.

2)The meal is not fatty like I should be eating on a Keto diet. I tend to add cheese to it and/or mayonnaise to up the fat.

  1. I tend to use those as my main sources.

4)I tend to do a lazy Keto as I roughly count carbs. I tend to be around 30g of carbs. Some times my carb intake can go all the way to 50g of carbs. I try to stay within 30g of carbs. (My size and weight I would say 30g of carbs are ok for me)

5)When I started I ate in my opinion unbalanced. I would eat a lot of eggs and I mean a lot compared to what I eat now. I would just eat a ton of fat such as butter, MCT OIL, Cheese, HWC, and more meat than what I eat now.

I would go to In & Out and eat 8 patties which kept me full and still does. I currently measure my meals and at the beginning, I just ate until I was full.

I would eat until I was full every single time. That was easy because of all the fat I was consuming. I would be satiated every time as the fat kept me full. Now I get hungry after 3 hours from eating my first meal. (Lunch)

As I lost weight I started incorporating more Veggies lowering my fat intake as I wanted my body to burn the fat in my body, not the fat I was consuming as I was starting to stall. My Ketones were not high anymore and I struggled with getting them higher.

In total, I lost 80 pounds in the first 7-8 months until I had a cheat meal of a month. After that I really stalled. I am close to 270lbs from my lowest of 240lbs. (30 pounds gained in less than 2 years!)

  1. I don’t know

  2. I tend to eat Lunch and Dinner with Snacking in between such as a Costco Low carb protein bar, Salami, Cheese, and Nuts.

  3. Possibly as I started cutting back as the more I stalled.

  4. I agree I am planning to go on a Carnivore diet as of 4/8/2019 to see if cutting Veggies, Nuts, Artificial Sugars helps. I will be choosing to eat fattier meat cuts such as beef which to me is a luxury as a student on a budget. With so much food I will be cutting back I believe the beget is there.

I will start the Carnivore diet with Chicken Wings, Bacon, and Ground Beef 70/30 as that is what I have stocked in my fridge at the moment. Chicken Wings are not as bad as they have a similar Fat to Protein ratio. I will be eating until I have become satiated like I did when I first started keto.

Let me know if this is a good start as I think that cutting and lowering my carbs further should help from what I understood from the replies.

Also want to add that my blood type is O+ and I have been reading that blood type O live better on a Carnivorous Diet. It might help or is just stupid and nothing related.

(Alec) #28

Sounds perfect keto food and quite inexpensive. Keto food can be cheap if you do it right. Could you add eggs and butter to that list or do you want to go strict carnivore?

I think this is the cause of your stall and gain. All the above (perhaps except the salami) are insulin trigger foods in many people. Your carnivore plan looks much better. Also, you could drop the snacking and eat more at meal times?

Gil
I would normally dismiss this kind of stuff as crazy nonsense, but I am type O and read that link, and they just described me perfectly. Maybe there’s something in it.:+1:

Thanks for your help!

I will give it a shot and no I’m not going strict Carnivore as I will allow animal products. I will give an update after a week or two.

Thanks again

@Gilberto_Contreras , you might find these links about blood types interesting:

@PaulL posted these links in another conversation:

And @LeCheffre posted more here:

Interesting conversation about it here, also:

I found what Richard said interesting:

I can’t get my hands on the research but there is research that shows that any food pulverizes as in a blended shake produced an unexpected insulin response. Insulin stores fat. That is one of it’s many tasks. This includes protein and fat I believe.

I’ll try to find the research later today or this weekend.

I don’t think that most people consider the effects of processing if it’s something that they do in their own kitchen or imagine that they could do with some sort of grinder. I think this is a mistake and that foods like ground nuts and seeds, nut and seed butters, shakes, and even ground meat are all more rapidly absorbed than their whole counterparts. There is no reason to think that it’s only wheat whose impact is significantly altered by being ground up to enable much more rapid digestion.

(Allie) #35

Are you still OMAD? Long-term this apparently lowers metabolism. Best to change things up between OMAD, 2MAD, fasting, and feasting.
