3 days of cheating. Next Steps?

(Reid Curry) #1

My wife and I have been eating really bad (doughnuts, hamburgers with buns, etc.) for three days. I have heard that we should fast and exercise. I have never fasted. What exactly should I do? Am I allowed to drink water and coffee while fasting? Any other allowed/suggested things while fasting? How long should I fast before getting back to eating correctly? THANKS!

Step one is just getting back on the horse. The biggest concern I’d have is the cravings you are about to have. Be ready to tackle those. Might have to up the fat for a few days to fight them off.

If you could fast for a couple days, it would help, but I’d be more worried about failing the fast and then having cascading levels of disappointment/failure to deal with.

Keep calm and keto on. Truer words have never been spoken. Life happens. Move on from it

Fasting when you’re not fat adapted is generally torture. Recipe for failure and repeated binging/fasting cycles. So, I’d recommend eating ketogenically and switching back into ketosis. Fasting can come later (and be easier once you’re back into ketosis).

Oh, and KCKO and use this as a learning experience.

You don’t need to fast or exercise, just stop eating the bad things… and you’ll be back in the game.

This!

Don’t torture yourself. Don’t punish yourself. Leave the past in the past. Just go forward from here. Eat as you should today. Repeat that tomorrow.

KCKO is the saying here.

TL;DR: just go back to eating low carb, starting now, and stop thinking about it.

I cheat every so often. When I cheat, I let myself really cheat. Last night I had an unplanned cheat, started having some candy, proceeded to annihilate a bunch of milk chocolate and truffles. My Fitbit showed my heart rate around 100 resting for quite a while after this binge.

Usually I go way harder than this. And I used to fast the next day, and/or walk a lot, and/or do some intense cardio.

The last few months I’ve been less and less hard on myself after a binge. After a binge I find I really don’t want to feel that way again for a few weeks afterwards. So the next day I’m back to my regular low carb diet. And my body recovers within a couple of days, as does my weight (which does tend to rise a bit after a binge.)

Just forget about the cheating and move forward.
