My guess is some kind of electrolyte imbalance?

Last night(Day 11) I was still a bit hungry an hour after my ribeye. Grilled up a 12.5 ounce NY strip, cut 4 oz of the lean meat away and was left with 8.5 ounces of steak that was half fat. Ate all but 2 ounces of that. Stopped at my obvious satiety point.
That makes Day 11 only 22 ounces of steak (much closer to my comfort zone on protein. For several days I was eating over 2 POUNDS of steak a day, and it was leaner)
The steaks today (and yesterday) were composed of half fat! It’s no wonder I was satisfied at so much less. The fat is the magic satiety macro!

I’m officially day one of steak/coffee/water/salt after a fucking awful bout with gastroenteritis. I lost 5 pounds in two days. So did my husband.

I got results of my baseline labs. My A1C had bumped up a little from 4.9 to 5.3. In looking forward to getting that back down.
Here are my cholesterol highlights:
Total 281
HDL 92
LDL 179
Trig 49
LDL-p 1536
HD-p 46.7
Small LDL-p 202
CRP 0.40
A1C 5.3
Insulin 7.8

I am realizing I need better steak knives.

Day 12 - ate the other half of the pan of fatty top cap steaks I fried in tallow yesterday. And took supplements.

Was hungry at 1:30 pm. Likely could have waited till after 4 if it were a work day. Ate all but a large 2 ounce chunk of the cooked steak fat, which I ate at 6:30. Then I ate 4 steak tenderloin medallions at 8:30. Floyd stole part of one.

Floyd is a very lucky cat!

Today I had the best meter readings in quite some time! Over the last several weeks I have been frustrated because my fasting glucose was always above 100, even as high as 130!! And my ketones were never above 0.4 when I woke up.

Today my fasting glucose is 79, and my ketones were 1.1 upon waking. Woot! Yay steak!

FanfuckingTASTIC girl!

Yep. Steak is magic. So is healthy fat. I’m slightly changing my strategy and eating much more steak fat on this challenge the last few days. Less lean meat. (this is day 13 for me). Immediately noticed I wanted nearly a pound less meat a day.!!!

WINNING

So far I haven’t really found myself too hungry. But I was really craving food other than steak yesterday. Today I am not hungry at all. It may be the leftover low appetite from the illness.

An another note…are you going to deep fry any of your steaks?! I have a fried full of tallow and am contemplating tossing one in there.

I’m having chocolate withdrawals. Is it time for bed yet?

(8 year Ketogenic Veteran) #76

No @AnnaLeeMI because I am not adding fats. That would add (though negligible) extra fats. I’m only eating the fat that comes on the steaks.

Makes sense.

I am going to take the opportunity to test for food sensitivities. I’ll add one food back at a time and wait a minimum of three days before adding another.
I am especially interested in my reaction to dairy, eggs, and artificial sweeteners.

I always planned on eating plant foods again. I already miss greens.

I ate animal products only for seven months back in 2015. I did the same as I moved back to plants. Tested for food sensitivities.

Day 13
Ate a quarter pound of sirloin at 11 am. 5:30 pm grilled a 12.9 ounce ribeye out in the snow.

(AnnaLeeThal) #80

6oz of a ribeye at 6pm, and then this 12 oz beauty just now.

Day 13 - currently travelling. Fasting for now. Will resume in couple of days when back home.

#82

Sliced brisket, it may not technically count as steak but it’s very fatty and sliced like a steak.

(AnnaLeeThal) #83

I’m not gonna lie, I’m struggling. Super nauseated again this morning, probably related to lack of sleep, so I went back bed. Right now steak is really the last thing that sounds good. Ugh. I’m gonna drink some coffee, relax with the dogs, and wait to see if I get hungry.

(AnnaLeeThal) #84

On a happier note: ketones 3.5! Highest number I have ever seen. Glucose 82.

I feel like I have sufficiently re-hydrated from my illness, but I have only gained back one pound from my 5 pound weight loss.
