3-4 pm crash

(Susan) #1

In week 2. Doing very well at keeping carbs <20g, even at my granddaughter’s birthday party!

Why do I have an energy crash around 3-4pm? I generally eat lunch around 1pm. I’m hanging around 1250-1400 calories a day. I gained half a pound which is distressing but I know in the long run, not a big deal (unless the trend continues). This is only day 12.

Ketone testing tells me I’m “moderate” yet doesn’t register at all or hubby who has lost 4 pounds.

Why do I feel so exhausted at 4pm? I wasn’t a high calorie consumer prior to this journey. Thanks!

Up your fat some, don’t worry about calories right now. Your body is adjusting to a different fuel source. Eat a lot of butter, cheese, coconut oil, olive oil, things of that nature!!

What are you using to test ketones? Is your husband more active? What do your macros look like? Are you actively trying to eat at a deficit? What are you doing for electrolytes? Do you have any food logs along with your height and weight to share? As for your husband, he will lose all weight more quickly. That’s what men do. Your keto journey is individual to you. You aren’t me, you aren’t your husband, you aren’t anyone but you and ketosis will do whatever it’s going to do to your body on it’s own sweet time as long as you get the input right.

PerfectKeto strips for testing. 5’5” 133#. Hubby and I both have sedentary computer jobs. He works at home, I work in a large office. We both need to increase our activity level. He’s 5’9” 220# and yeah has that male metabolism on his side. I also know being post menopausal doesn’t help me.

I’m not deliberately reducing calories, but if I hit my targets, it says my “goal” calories are 1200-1400 which I usually do.

Here’s the issue. You clearly are counting calories. Just stop doing this. Eat more fat until you are full. Very likely you will eat more than 1200-1400 calories (which BTW, sounds too low to me), but don’t be scared of this. Your goal right now is to become fat adapted, the easiest way to do this is to provide the body with the easiest fat to use: fat that you eat.

Once you are fat adapted (often takes 4-6 weeks), then you will either find you start losing weight naturally, or if you don’t you may need to kickstart the process with a fast or 2.

If you feel hungry in the afternoon, eat some fat. When you’re hungry, eat fat. Go find bacon, stat! mmmmm… yum!

Trust the process, KCKO.
Cheers

This is very informative -

I log my intake in the app KetoDiet. It tracks calories so I know what the calorie count is but I’m concentrating on the macros. The calorie-counting is a byproduct of that. So unfortunately I’m aware of the calorie count.

Don’t forget to increase salt intake, you really shed sodium on a Keto diet. Salt can be linked to energy levels I find.
