Hi all,
Last July I started keto, Lost weight and best of all energy was fantastic. I slipped big time over the Christmas break, but started back on keto 3 weeks ago. This time, however, I haven’t had the energy boost like the first time around (I felt great after the first week and a bit). I am literally tired all the time with hardly any energy. I am having heaps of salt and electrolytes, take magnesium and am on iron tablets. Any clues as to why this is happening this time around?
Thanks!
Jenny
2nd time around and little energy
Are you eating regularly to satiety? Getting enough fats and keeping carbs under 20 grams? Sounds like you haven’t passed through the glucose depletion fully. Are you over consuming a few too many carbs on some days possibly stringing you along without enough carbs to feel normal and not switching over to fat as fuel?
Hi Jenny! I’m actually on my third time around in less than a year lol (hopefully final!). Each time has been different in regards to how my body has reacted. I just have to continually make little adjustments to feel the way I should. I’m getting there, but it’s much slower than the last time and takes much more attention. I track literally everything (and I didn’t have to do that before) and make note of what makes me feel better and worse. I would suggest that for you and I hope it helps!
Dr. Michael Eades talks about why keto is harder the second time around in the article below. He’s dealt with thousands of patients and his prevailing belief is that our bodies wise up to our motive for weight loss. He says: “You can fool it once or twice but then it gets wise.”
That’s not to say you should give up. It simply means you have to be a lot more dedicated to the program.
