1st Valentine's day with no chocolate!

(Jill F.) #1

I hope everyone had a great Valentine’s day. It is my 1st one since beginning keto and I literally regifted every piece of candy I was given this week!
I used to loooooooovvvveee the Reeses peanut butter hearts and eat them right after Christmas. And eat the trees at Christmas, then the eggs at Easter. Like 5 full months of PB and chocolate products! Today, not one bite and had to wear another size down in pants!

If you want to feed that Reese’s urge. Try some no sugar, natural peanut butter from Whole Foods and spread it over two small squares of Lindt 90 percent dark chocolate and it serves the purpose quite well.

Good job Jill. You look amazingly happy in that photo.

I had plenty of carbs to spare so I indulged in a half ounce of 100% Baker’s chocolate. The taste stuck to my tongue for a good half hour.

Awesome Jill! Isn’t it liberating?! Those specialty Reese’s were always my favorite. I had to give them up for good about 8 years ago. They started making me more and more sick each time I ate them that I finally had to give them up, it was heartbreaking! Lol. But now I’ve given up all sugar for over 2 years now. Have mostly given up sweetener too, but not 100% yet.

Like @CarlKeller, I’ve just now gotten to the point last week that I ate a square of 100% unsweetened chocolate with a tablespoon of peanut butter and it actually tasted delicious!

You look great (and happy!!).
Yesterday was also my first V Day without chocolate and I feel just fine

that’s awesome! Our HR manager (so sweet) left little valentines candies on everyone’s desk, and when I got in I immediately put mine on my co-worker’s desk before she got in… lol. Then of course my boss later in the day walked around and gave everyone more candy… sigh… I didn’t eat it… I’m good with my own delicious homemade chocolate!

My wife bought a very small cheesecake (maybe 3 inches in diameter or less), which we split between three people, and I added some 88% dark chocolate. We also had lots of shrimp and very fatty ribeye (so fatty even my wife complained about it). My ketones were 2.5 this morning, likely due to the extreme amount of fat. Fat = high ketones for me. My blood sugar was oddly low, too. Ketones were 1.1 upon getting to work, though I use a different monitor (same company and strips though).

That is EXACTLY what I had last night lol!!! Except I had the 100%. Def satisfies the chocolate craving.

Great job! It does feel so good to know you didn’t do anything bad to your body just for a bit of sweet taste for the moment. Kudos!

Awesome Jill, now that’s what I call control! I didn’t do as well, let’s see, one slice of SAD pizza, 2/3 of a big bag of peanut m&m’s and one of those little heart box’s of chocolates, add my very first ever scipt for prednisone (30mg), my stomach hates me. oh yeah, almost forgot, I haven’t heard any talk about glycine on this site yet, but I think it’s tastier than sugar and it an amino acid and it’s supose to help with blood sugar control

Thanks, I was very happy spending Valentines at a couples yoga class si nothing about Valentine’s day was centered around food. Except I had a sip of champagne and a nice rib eye for dinner!

I take glycine at night. Sometimes I use it in tea. I also keep taking it when I water fast.

Richard mentioned in a couple of podcast episodes that he used it at some point.

I don’t think pb cups or candy taste very good anymore- anyway!! So much tastier eating PB! Or a bit of PB on 99% cacao dark choc!
You look amazing! A picture of health!
