1st extended fast

(Nicholas Elder) #1

I have been on Keto since November 1st, and last month I started intermittent fasting everyday for 16 hours. I wanted to see how I would feel doing a extended fast. I am 36 hours in and feel fine, I been drinking mineral water and took 1 tsp of sea salt so far. The goal is 72 hours, any recommendation on how to break the fast. I usually have eggs, bacon and spinach as my first meal of the day, would that be okay to end the fast with?

Congrats! Don’t skimp on the salt is my first suggestion. Second, I usually break a fast gently with like, 4 olives, some macadamias, maybe an ounce of cheese. Then I wait an hour & have a small regular meal. If I don’t do it this way I end up with what Richard refers to as “Disaster pants” :scream:

At 3 days you could just eat a meal as normal. Could always do a actual “break” with a handful of nuts, an egg (which people have mixed results with apparently) I do that a lot or just anything to get the system back up and running, but even when I do a week I just eat again. Now if I were going to hit beyond a week, I’d break it slowly in stages. But I really wouldn’t worry about breaking a 3 day fast.

Since this is your first EF I suggest staying close to a bathroom sometimes you get the woosh effect :open_mouth:

Yeah, don’t make the mistake I did once of eating a large salad. It didn’t digest.

When I break my current fast, it’s going to be with an avocado or some beef.

Thanks for the suggestions, I am off work Monday so if there is any distress I should be fine.

WOW I guess that’s really good info disguised as TMI!

For some reason, whenever I have eggs as my first meal after a fast, I feel a little woozy. Just eggs do this to me. Almost everything else is fine.
