I’ve been doing intermittent fasting for 3 full months as of yesterday and STILL not adapted. Everywhere i read it says 3 months, 12 weeks, at least 3 months, 5 weeks, etc. This is some bull! Feeling tired, had to quit my sales job! Yawning all day long. I get completely all of my nutrients so no one mention nutrients and i don’t use ketostix or anything. Please just someone tell me if they know anyone or them themselves took a very long time to adapt. And don’t worry I’m a smart fellow I am starting school I have a backup plan and money. I did actually do this before and it took a while but I woke up one day and was adapted, it was beautiful and I need it to happen again! Please any comments appreciated. I did cheat twice and didn’t fast but honestly i’m just writing this because it’s so frustrating and any support is great. Bring the mental clarity already! Trying hard to implement ketogenic diet but my body cannot do without carbs for one day!
13th week of IF, still not adapted 😪
If you do not mind…What are you eating? Can you describe a day? Do you mind stating your goals? Do you know your body fat percentage? I know you do not want to hear about supplements but do you add salt? If so, how much? Are you on any meds? Not many people do “without” carbs, unless full fasting. Even ZC is not zero carbs, typically.
I’m eating 1800 cals a day, i’m not that much bodyfat but it goes up when i eat donuts… what i eat daily is usually some donuts which is bad yes but IF is very hard for me to control my carb cravings because i have low body fat already. I eat avacadoes, spinach, lean meat patties, broccoli, i put a lot of sea salt on the meat patties, aaaand a half bowl of oatmeal. My goals are to get rid of my acne (which only recently occured, yay ) and improve my energy with that beautiful mental clarity that occurs once fat adapted! No meds.
hmmmm I am not sure if you have this right, it is not the IF that will clear your acne and get improve your energy but the whole process of ketosis and what that means, cutting sugar, etc. You do not have to IF at all to get adapted. More important is to cut the donuts and oatmeal, if you can (or so I would think) Have you tried eating more fatty meat as an option for energy? Perhaps others will chime in but something sounds a tad off on your thinking. I will say, the ONLY issues I have ever had, as far as energy, have been solved FAST by drinking a glass of salt water If you are lean already why are you eating lean meats? Just curious, not saying it is a bad thing.
A glass of salt water didn’t cure me. I feel lethargy and i’ve yawned since I started IF. It’s the same adaptation process as ketogenic diet because after 10 hours i hit ketosis. Idk, they’re like meat patties for burgers. What are meats with a lot of fat ? And i have lethargy, headaches, fatigue, tired when i wake up, but my blood sugars stablizing and my skins clearing up, i feel it can work soon. Any reason why it hasnt worked and i’m 13 weeks in? It can take a while for people right? And okay about the sugar, i will quit tomorrow with my atleast 1 donut a day, even though i still do hit ketosis daily. I can tell with my keto breath.
It’s not only about reducing carbs, which you should do, but about making fat your primary energy source. You should be consuming at least 60% of your calories from fat. It’s about lipolysis, not merely ketosis. You can be ketogenic while following a lipogenic macro, all you have to do is restrict calories/food intake.
Ignorethat last pic, here. Last timei got adapted though, i wasnt on ketogenic, i was just doing plant based and intermittent fasting
I literally felt like this until one day i just popped into the other side of it like heaven. It took a long time too, but now i will do this exact diet starting tomorrow.
Thank you, it’s time to cut carbs below 50 g and fast for 22+ hours a day, this is taking too long the games are over!
If you want this to change, STOP eating carbs. Or you could smoke some meth…same difference.
I’m confused, was this a serious post? You eat a donut every day? 13 weeks into what? From the sounds of it, you’re following a typical American diet, which is not Ketogenic, and will not put you into ketosis. Just because you eat on a time restriction, you still need to follow some rules if you want to get the benefit of Keto. What are your macros? I’ll help you here. Carbs are under 20g net. What are your protein and fat macros? If you don’t know, let me know your weight and I can help you calculate.
You do understand you do not need to IF to get fat adapted? A lot of people believe that UNTIL you are adapted it may be best not to.
IF alone is enough to reach fat adaptation. There’s two ways, low carb DIET and intermittent FASTING. Thanks guys I will 1. cut carbs down to 30g and below from now on so i can get out of this long annoying adaptation period and 2. Fast for 20 hours a day
You could start fasting 23 hours and 59 minutes a day, but if you eat a bunch of carbs (donuts) for that one minute eating window, you will not get the benefits of a ketogenic diet or be “adapted”. Fat adaption is the process of using fat for fuel, If you keep eating carbs, your body won’t be able to do that, and you will continue to feel the way you do. Drop your carbs below 20g net a day, don’t worry about IF, figure out your protein and fat macros making sure you meet your protein because it’s most important using fat for satiation.
13 weeks of what you’re doing is not working so you came for advice. Don’t tell people the advice they are providing is wrong when what you’re doing isn’t working.
I apologize this is very frustrating and tomorrow will be a new day. I will continue to fast but the carbs are DONE. Is 25g fine?
Fewer the better. Consensus is to drop them below 20g net which is total carb minus fiber. Then, after lets say 13 weeks, you can start slowly increasing depending on how you feel. When you start feeling crappy again, drop them back down and realize that feeling better is more enjoyable than the 30 seconds of mouth pleasure you get from the donuts.
Also, and please don’t take offense. Don’t blame ketosis (which is not happening in your case) for your bad breath. Brush your teeth and chew some gum.
