1 Week In, 11lbs down. Healthy?

(Nathan Gilbert) #1

I am a 29 yo male with a starting weight of 362 :pensive: I started very strict keto, 16:8 IF, and drinking about 100 ozs of water per day 6 days ago. I feel great and my chronic fatigue has greatly improved. I have also found that I am not nearly as hungry now as when I ate a ton of carbs.

As far as weight loss, I am down 11lbs! I am extremely pleased with these results, but I have always read that weight loss should not exceed more than a few lbs a week. Is it healthy to have lost 11lbs in such a short period of time?

Fast weight loss may increase stress on the body… But other than that as long as you get all nutrients and keto on, then you should not worry.
Your body may get it’s hormones in balance and signal your body to reduce hunger and loose weight fast.

I wouldn’t worry about it. It was probably mostly water, from the carbohydrate stored as glycogen in your muscles. In any case, people with a lot of fat to lose often seem to lose it fairly rapidly, with no apparent ill effects. Trust your body. There is a natural limit to how much fat per pound/kilo your body can metabolize in a day, anyway.

Thanks! As I said, I feel great. Much better than I expected to feel. My energy levels are through the roof!

And you’ve only been doing this for six days? That’s really good progress. :bacon:

It’s your first week and with a body weight of 362 it could have been even more. Week 2 you will probably lose a lot too. Maybe 5 or 6 pounds and then it will be 0 to 3 pounds a week and sometimes even a gain. This is the healthiest way you will ever eat. And in a few months you will feel amazing. Keep up the good work. The 11 pounds is inflammation and water that you need to get rid of.

My first week
I lost more than you. It is pretty normal I think for people at our weights.

No ill affects here.

I lost 10 lbs my first 10 days, starting weight of 234.5. Then went on to lose about 7.5 more the next 2-3 weeks. After that I slowed to a normal weight loss. With a total weight loss in feb of 6lbs. Don’t get discouraged if it slows down after a few weeks!

From what I have read a large portion of that initial weight that is lost is water weight. I also read that that type of weight can be gained back swiftly only to be lost again. 11 pounds is amazing, so happy for you and wish you continued success
