I bought some Zipp Fizz at COSTCO. Only 2 carbs lots of potassium and other vitamins. Since I am drinking lots of water (9.5 cups or more). Plus coffee. I thought this would help prevent cramps.
Any thoughts?
ZippFizz
I know some people have had bad reactions to it, but this was years ago and they may have changed the formula. We worked in that industry and we tried it, probably 20% of us had some issues from heart racing to fidgety anxiety to vomitting. One of their claims is they have like 40,000 times the recommended daily allowance for B12, which is insane and could understandably cause issues.
i have experienced the above with zippfizz…pre keto…too scared to try now
@arenteria - if you do have any side effects costco will take it back no questions asked.
my costco also carries EcoDrink (on the vitamin aisle)…i haven’t had any funky sides with it like with the zippfizz
I don’t have any reactions either. I do feel refreshed. I like mineral water too. But I do notice a spike in my glucose meter 117. I wonder what’s in it that does this? I only have a day. Some days not.
I just tested my BG before zip fizz and then 30 min later, huge jump from 79 to 103. No more ZipFizz for me! It contains both Sucralose and Xylitol…I wonder which one is the culprit!!
The only thing I did between (aside from drinking the zipfizz) is take a hot bath and then a cold shower.
I’ve been using it for my fasting electrolytes/ketoade (used to use it for long cycle rides) and I don’t feel any reactions but I don’t test BG to know.
I wouldn’t have bought them for this purpose (or at all now) but I’m using them up (given the vast quantities you have to buy at Costco) and this seemed appropriate. Funnily enough given this is an old thread, I was just discussing Zipfizz with a friend who is incredulous over a Zornfast.
I looooooove ZipFizz so I’m super bummed! (I’m also 20 hours fasted so slightly annoyed that I messed up my fast too but oh well.) It has so many vitamins in it plus makes bike rides more enjoyable…but probably not worth the glucose spike? I’ll continue to test out different drinks. I’m going to test Nuun next.
FWIW I tested this Lakanto drinking chocolate with coffee and cream last week and had no reaction, so monk fruit is on the Okay list.
Something interesting to note…I just read a few blog posts from people who said they get huge jumps in BG from taking a hot bath, so that might have been a confounded. I will test ZipFizz again and report back!
KetoConnect on YouTube did a BG test on different sweeteners and Xylitol was a big raise for both of them.
I just tested liquid Sucralose tonight and went from 89 to 98 in 30 or so minutes, but incidentally I also took a hot bath right after the first reading! Haha, I will test again. I’ll probably test ZipFizz (again, just in case) and Nuun as well, since those are two electrolyte drinks I like when I ride. I’ve been riding with water and/or salted water for the past six months or so, but it’s be nice to have the option.
I’ll look for that episode of their podcast - I think I remember erithrytol had no response? I’ve tested that and had no response either. Same with Stevia but I still avoid it since Fung says they believe it causes an insulin response.
Here’s the episode that was from. Obviously n=1 as usual but, an interesting experiment.
It’s been the only thing that got me through the Keto flu. Tried a couple Keto aid drinks but they didn’t help. Zipfizz helped me overcome the horrible energy lows and took away my dizzy spells.
I love ZippFizz. However, I’m concerned that if I take it while fasting it will break or negate the fast because it’s still 20 calories even though it’s only 2g of carbs.
Thoughts on if ZippFizz affects the fast or not?
One of the articles I read on fasting said drinks under 50 calaroies were okay. Obviously you wouldn’t want to have multiples, but at 20 calories you would be okay. Some of the ketoaid recipes that call for lemon juice will have around 20 calories and I’m pretty sure those are okay while fasting.
Hi LeeAnn, how much ZippFizz do you use? How much during the first month? Thanks
Did you ever re-test your ZipFizz BG? I’m a huge fan but will definitely limit them if they’re causing spikes.
ZipFizz doesn’t seem to cause a response for me, but everyone is different.
