I need some advice. I am checking Macros and calories of 1700 a day or less. I have not lost one inch or one pound. I need to lose 30 pounds. I dont know what to do.
Any ideas?
Zero Weight loss and in Ketosis since July
How did you calculate your calories and macros? What is your eating pattern- are you snacking or starting to fast intermittently?
Keep your carbohdrate intake under 20 g/day, to start with. That will keep your insulin low enough for your body to be able to mobilize its store of excess fat. Eat enough protein and fat at each meal to go hours between meals without difficulty. At 1700 cal/day, you are most likely doing this, but don’t worry about your calorie count, just eat to satiety.
Is anything happening with your clothing size? Sometimes women put on lean mass while simultaneously losing fat. This confuses the scale, but is actually progress.
Without knowing your size 1700 kcal a day seems low and as you are not losing any weight this might indicate that your base metabolic rate is low. I’m not sure how you can increase it but one way is to eat more. Exactly how much and for how long I don’t know. There are reports that it can be hard to increase a low BMR acquired after prolonged calorie restriction (e.g. following a typical “weight loss diet” for a long period).
Keto Diet calculator. I have started the fasting but not on an exact schedule yet because I am not sure about the schedule. I am getting my confidence up that I CAN do it. 16 to 18 hour fasts are not bothering me but I do drink coffee with a bit of cream.
I do not eat much and it is hard to meet macros. If I snack – it is celery.
Lunch and dinner. I normally half a chicken breast with my mom and avocado for lunch.
I do drink Vodka and water with a little lime about 3 times a week with friends.
I still have tons of belly fat and nothing has changed in my clothing. Carbs are 20g a day. I am wondering if Vodka can be messing this up. I am still in Ketosis and eating right but I have about 3 shots of Vodka about 3 nights a week with water and lime.
Thank you for answering.
Hi @Fiona2
vodka/lime is definitely not going to be helping your case, that would be the first thing I would boot out of your week if you can as it will temporarily stall any keto fat burning.
Wouldnt like to really offer too much more advice really without knowing more about your food, current state of health etc, I’d go back to basics though, cook all your meals from scratch, calculate your targets again using one of the online TDEE resources, perhaps try reducing calories temporarily to see if it has an effect, and try and get some exercise in.
Up your water levels to address any water retention?
Are you doing any exercise?
Yes, I am a Rancher so super active daily and I go to the gym 3 times a week.
Thank you for answering
The weeks I drink more than one time, I don’t lose anything. I am willing to bet your liver is taking care of the alcohol and it isn’t able to work it’s magic on the fat you consume. Also, take a look at what kind of fat you are eating. I wasn’t able to really start losing until I took seed oils out of my diet. Some scientists think that the inflammatory nature of those oils may adding to the obesity epidemic. Try to pull out all soybean, canola, corn, sunflower oil etc and switch to avocado, coconut, extra virgin olive oil and grass fed butter for your cooking. Additionally, check labels of mayo and salad dressing and avoid those. Primal foods has a really good avocado based mayo. I now make all my own salad dressings just so I can avoid both seed oils and sugar.
There’s lot’s of things that could be going on. Did you measure yourself when you began? How do your clothes fit now? The scale can be a poor way to judge progress, especially if you’re training. The first thing I’d make sure of is that you only eat when you’re actually hungry. Maintain your macros but adjust your food intake accordingly. Try to train fasted. Don’t eat before training, but it’s fine to eat afterwards if hungry.
The calories in your weekly alcohol consumption (3 x 4.5oz Vodka x 52 weeks) is enough to gain 13 pounds a year, assuming it is not offset by reduction in other intake. So at least you have avoided about 6 pounds of weight gain since July.
There’s also a theory that they cause fat cells to become insulin sensitive, meaning the fat cells keeps “asking” for more calories. Meanwhile, saturated fat has the opposite effect, it causes the fat cells to be insulin resistant, meaning that the fat cells stop taking in calories.
Seed oils = bad.
Okay. I will try all that. Thanks so much. Dr says I have very low cortisol. Starting supplement for that soon
Dr says my cortisol is low.
Clothes fir the same. Super fat belly. I have noticed that I eat when I think it is time and I am not hungry. Thanks for pointing that out.
Habitual eating is one of the most important things to overcome. Once you are able to go by what your body tells you things will start to happen.
