Yerba Mate

Anyone here experiment with Yerba Mate (basically a South American green tea)?

There seems to be some evidence for increase thermogenesis for example. I got some last week. For sure I found that if i drink it 20-30min before riding my bike I get really hot. I mean really hot. That would suggest a thermogenic effect. Supposedly this owes not only to its caffeine content which isn’t really all that high but also due to some of the other compounds.

It also tends to increase urinary output. Be careful, until you become accustomed to it.

As for the “backed by science” bit, I’d read the studies with caution.

“Urinary output” is an interesting one isn’t it? We have seen some threads on this recently. I have always tended toward “thirsty” but depending upon various things (coffee intake, ketones, now Yerba Mate) I sometimes drink a lot and pee less and some times drink a lot a pee more, hence I think my “scale weight” can be all over the map and misleading to some extent.

I don’t drink it regularly, but enjoy it when I do! Packs a punch!
