Xylitol Gum questions

(Heather Meyer) #1

Hey yall,
Okay , so my Dentist perscribed me to chew 6 pieces of xylitol sweetened gum because apparently its a cavity prevention method(ive been prone to cavities often)

My questions are

  1. can i chew xylitol gum during fasting window?
  2. will xylitol gum raise my insulin?
  3. how many pieces could i chew per day?
  4. will it hinder weight loss?

On a related matter, do you have a dog? Xylitol is deadly for dogs so if you do have it around the house be careful they don’t get to it.

Chewing itself could well cause an insulin response … so…

Given the choice of a gram of xylitol or a pound of sugar, I would eat the pound of sugar. If I’m going short circuit my satiety signals, thwart my keto progress, and stall my fat loss, I’d just as soon do it honestly and with no pretensions.

Also, sugar won’t kill my dog…so theres that.

In all fairness though I’m irrationally biased against food imitating, keto thwarting chemistry expirements so it’s hard for me to be objective.

Thank you for your thoughts… im not trying to replace anything though.
My DENTIST advised me to chew xylitol gum. He said 6 grams per day will stimulate salivary glands and prevent cavities
So i am trying to determine if it would negatively affect my keto journey.

I have a Dog…a very sick Dog in fact and i am very well educated on the dangers of xylitol and Dogs so I dont keep xylitol in my house
