That’s ok. I’ve seen enough of Rocky and the Terminator to last me a lifetime. And I don’t get my high quality keto info from companies that market bullshit supplements to gym lunks.

#64

thats fine. You asked… I gave you the articles…which you probably didnt read… then you make fun of me with snarky comments when i am trying to be honest with you. i dont want to argue at all but I am really blown away by the hostility and game playing on this forum. never ever experienced this stuff. your not the only one. please dont ask me to spend my time looking stuff up for you when you are not going to read it and use it as a source of ridicule. you asked for sources and what lead me to my process that i was successful with. I cannot do anymore more for you with the way your going at this.

anyways, good luck with your journey. I am being honest.

(Sarah ) #65

Blah blah blah… I wish this bodybuilding crap would get off this website but I can just keep scrolling whenever I see it. If I were interested in “cutting” I’d be on a different forum. I’m here to work with my body for health, to bathe my brain with ketones. No interest in oiling myself up and parading around in a bikini.

(Jacquie) #66

@davidvincent After reading your posts here and in other threads, it seems that you’re on a very different wavelength than most, if not all, of the folks here. You’ve found what works for you and so I understand why you’re so keen to offer your advice here but it’s not working at all. I would suggest you cut your losses and check out the primary keto/bodybuilding group on facebook, Ketogains. I think you’ll find lots of folks you can relate to and have the kinds of exchanges/discussions you were hoping to have here. If you don’t belong to fb, check out their website.

#67

Perhaps I am misunderstanding your intent, however it seems to me that you’re implying that people are fat because they are lazy. This couldn’t be further from the truth for those who visit and rely on this forum. David, please consider that not everyone can walk.

#68

Babe? I’m not sure if you’re trying to be cute, amusing or used this term in an attempt to diffuse the nature of your conversation, but you’ve missed the mark. Please be respectful when addressing people in this forum @davidvincent

davidvincent has been awarded the ‘Troll in the dungeon’ badge. I think he’s done here.

(eat more) #70

there really isn’t either of those things.

i believe you genuinely want to help but your approach is like going to someone’s house, insulting the host, complaining about the food, breaking shit and then saying “this party sucks!”

in another thread i said “slow your roll” and that was genuine advice…
it doesn’t go over well to jump on an established forum with intelligent members and act like you know everything and they’re all idiots.
which is the tone your posts take whether you realize/admit it or not.
90% of the active members here read, research, retain information and are able to break it down for others.
that is something to be respected…on top of respecting the members as adult human beings with fully functional and highly used brains

like i said, i do think you genuinely want to help and have seen you say some very supportive things and i think you “mean well” but…you have to be able to formulate your posts in a respectful way and also take advice.
part of sharing/having knowledge is knowing that you do NOT know it all…expect pushback on unproven things but don’t take it personally.
what you have learned works for you and is your truth and no one has to accept it just because you say so.

it’s not personal…just some things to think about.

You were asked to provide “peer-reviewed, double-blind randomized scientific studies that have tested the hypothesis that you just presented” and you instead posted a link to a promo site for a supplement maker. While the article does have citations, none of them are provided in a form that would allow the average reader to check the cites to see that they actually back up the author’s claims.

As for “hostility and game playing” the thing you may want to consider is that you have been called to task for your tone and approach by multiple users, several admins, and the co-founder of this site, @richard, so maybe the issue here is your approach. Your opinion seems to be that we’re all wrong and need to chill out. I’m thinking that maybe you could spend more than a couple of days in the forums before you start telling people how they should react to new users who come in and provide baseless advice that is at odds with what most of us know from having spent a great deal of time reading and discussing the topic.

If you’re interested in helping, then start by spending a few days listening first. If all you want is to act like a pigeon (fly in, strut around and shit all over the place), then you’re going to wear out your welcome quickly.

FWIW, I’ve been here since before the forums were open to the public, and you are at this point only the second person who has complained about how poorly he was being treated. Out of thousands of users.

When enough people keep saying the same thing (it’s you) perhaps it’s time to actually listen.

PS - I would have sent this to you privately, but since you seem determined to ignore friendly advice from admins offered privately, and also bring up private conversations in public, I figured better to allow everyone to see the discussion.

(Roxanne) #72

Well said, @Jacquie - we seem to want different thinks. Most of us on this forum are here for health, with weight loss as a side benefit. David seems to be entirely focused on fat reduction / body sculpting, resulting in conflict.

#73

Well, with the added remarks that people who don’t lose weight don’t push themselves hard enough. That’s a big no-no.

#74

Thanks for picking up on that, @KetoKate. When I saw what he called me, it really showed what this guy is about. Misogyny galore.

(Melissa Feather) #75

WOW - that got exciting. :grimacing:

(Alex Dipego) #76

I’m away for a couple days and wow.

I hope the take away here is that the adaptation of energy need and usage varies with multiple factors (activity, intake, insulin, sleep, overall health). There are general truths on this path but like any highway we all get on at different points and we all gave a different exit.

(Melissa Feather) #77

So brief DXA scan update. Before I go into details - I just want to reiterate that this is a journey. Each of us has a different story, different goal, and different health requirements/expectations. My journey is mine. I value constructive feedback but really don’t want to deal with generalized “personal opinions” that don’t offer constructive thinking, ideas or science. With that being said…on to results.

I weighed 118 Monday, April 3, 2017, the day of my DXA scan. Just guessing, I thought I would be somewhere between 23-25% body fat based on my weight. Much to my dismay, I came in at 28.9 total body fat %, 34.9 fat tissue lbs., 81.4 lean tissue lbs., and 4.2 bone mineral content. My reaction was once again…WTF! :open_mouth:

Now that the shock is behind me, several learnings:

  1. For my age, I’m in the 27-32% for body fat.
  2. My highest percentage of body fat is Android (tummy) area at 33.7% with 3.0% of pure fat
  3. VAT is 1.06 mass / 30.97 volume which basically means my visceral fat is way too high
  4. Bone density is not good -0.6, my new target will be .5 to 1.5 (which will put me in the 69-93% of population). That may be a high target but I can adjust as I experiment/learn

So, changing things up for the next 3 months then I’ll retest.

  1. Will incorporate IF and regular fasting into my plan
  2. Will reduce the amount of red wine I consume (my only vice…)
  3. Will reduce the steady state cardio and replace with HIIT (jump rope) and weight training

(Todd Allen) #78

Your plan sounds good. Good feedback as you execute it may help you evaluate how well it is working and test variations. In addition to taking pictures, I’ve been using skinfold calipers which fall in between a scale and a dexa scan for convenience and accuracy. I got a very inexpensive non-digital type (~$15) which means to do a proper test I need my wife to take the measurements which I pester her to do about once per week. It takes a couple minutes. We do the method of summing 4 measurements from different points on the body and looking up the result in a chart selected by age and sex which gives body fat %. Multiply weight by bf% to get body fat weight and the remainder of weight is lean body mass. I also have an impedance type body composition measuring smart scale but the calipers give a more accurate reading. The calipers measure the thickness of skin fat which is only a proxy for total fat as the important visceral fat goes unmeasured. But unlike the scale, changes in water weight, muscle glycogen and the fullness of ones intestines have little impact on the reading. The dexa provides the reference to see how much to offset the caliper reading and between dexa scans the calipers give a more consistent indication of progress than a scale does.

(Alex Dipego) #79

Definitely great information to have and good plan of action.

Extended fasting will probably be in order in regards to boosting HGH levels to increase bone density. Taking advantage of autophagy from time to time may also be on the menu. I’m excited for you because of your willingness to adapt and stick with it. This is where many fail to find what works due to frustration. More power to ya! Hope to see some NSVs in the near future!

(Michelle) #80

Thanks for updating us. Sounds like a great plan - especially the weight training. If you can swing it, get a trainer for a period of time and be specific about what you want. This changed my life for sure.

I like red wine too, and definitely have some (too much??) on the weekends.

I am doing my first extended fast for HGH production and autophagy. I read in Complete Guide to Fasting that HGH increases 1250% on a 5 day fast. Amazing.

(Melissa Feather) #81

Todd, I love that idea. I used to have manual calipers but after so many moves they didn’t make the cut.

What brand are you using? I’ll do my own research but like to have recommendations where I can. Thanks for the formulas too - I’ll definitely continue to update occasionally. Cheers!

(Melissa Feather) #82

Oh wow - I didn’t realize the potential HGH increase was that high. I just bought the Complete Guide to Fasting yesterday and I’ll use that for my future fasts. I listened to Jimmy/Megan’s Fasting Talk episode a couple of weeks ago where she talked about her own personal bone density increasing a lot by fasting. I’m hoping to make pretty good muscle and bone gains over the next 3 months. It will be a fun learning experience.
