Worried and scared

So got some Not so good new …according to my dr my liver is thru the roof .like very dangerous.i have to stop all vitamins no tyenol.no meat except chicken with veggies n salad.he even told me to quit keto for 2 weeks I said no.so no red meat for a week.then I go get blood work done next Tuesday.
He actually said he’s worried.he cut my one anti depressant in half so 150 only instead of 300
He actually told me it’s so dangerous if he can’t find out why or what’s causing it.ill get very sick fast n die it’s that dangerously off charts.i was stunned like wtf.it explains being tired.
How I felt is wtf??? I was fat but only issue prediabetic.lose 60 lbs n I get sick?
I’m not going to quit keto.I have 98 lbs to go…
I have a feeling it’s probably the biotin for nails skin n face that’s the problem

Maybe vegetarian keto? I don’t know.

Sorry to hear. Did you have a baseline test before this?

Do you drink alcohol? Did you eat a tremendous amount of carbs or sugar before you started keto so that you may be recovering from NAFLD

I would definitely stop all supplements as he said. Then I would research each one separately to see if any cause liver problems. I assume you have already seen this by your comment.

I don’t drink at all.don’t do drugs or smoke.nope no sugar for 15 yrs due to now ex being type 2.diabetes. I mean junk food yes. But no health issues besides pretty diabetic.I do take biotin.I’m thinking that’s the bad guy.I do test next Tuesday. No tyenol. Less meat.I told him except for being tired I can’t believe I’m sick .I’m not quitting keto.Dr’s like to blame keto .think about it.ppl get healthy…they don’t needs meds. …etc Dr’s lose money.less apps less money. Lol

No he was OK with chicken.
Honestly I think it’s the biotin for hair nails n skin.possibly my 1 anti depressant wellibrutrin

Both biotin and Welbutrin can cause liver damage and crazy liver enzymes.

?? I didn’t know that. I take biotin regularly. Because I have a lot of hair loss, due to over excercising and dieting and not eating enough. Should I stop biotin do you think?

@lenore I would definitely stop the biotin. I was taking it after chemo to get my hair to grow back but had weird liver readings. Oncologist said was most likely the cause. Liver is good now. Google biotin and liver and welbutrin and liver. Lots of hits.

Hope your tests are better soon. Keto has helped all of my tests and reversed mild non-alcoholic fatty liver.

Thank you. That maybe would explain I don’t have good metabolism, my liver accounts for a lot in my body and I feel it’s not as good as it used to be but I attributed it to ageing. Will just try vitamin D supplements and eat a lot of greens.

I too started taking biotin after chemo. My hair is growing back but is very thin compared to the thick beautiful hair I had before cancer!!! We’re you able to find anything you could take instead of the biotin? Any advice is much appreciated!! TIA :smile:

@Amy_R0922 I am 3 years out from chemo Sept 23rd. My hair is as thick and full as it was before chemo. My beautician is using my hair for updo photos for her salon!

It has really gone crazy since I started Keto and working with IDM on fasting. Eat a ton fat! Feel free to PM I had 4 sense doses of TC.

I’m hoping that’s all it was.I’m not taking anything.except my med. Dr was saying eat more carbs…OK I’ll eat more dressing on my salad lol
I’m not going to eat rice.potato bread or pasta.unless OK I’d eat a yam…
I ran out of money to get squash tho

How long after stopping biotin did your tests return to normal? What if biotin is part of a B-complex supplement, that does make any difference?

@Lisambc Though I am not a doctor, from what I’ve learned I would expect a ketogenic diet to help your liver, not harm it. It is carbohydrates and sugar, especially fructose, that cause liver damage. I would advise avoiding biotin and Welbutrin, as people have suggested, and also any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, such as acetominiphen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen (Advil). I would even avoid aspirin as well. And of course, also avoid alcohol.

To help your depression, try to eat foods containing tryptophan, which has a lot of uses in the body, but is essential for the brain to make serotonin.

@Lisambc I am not a doctor. My answer is just my experience. I do not see why a ketogenic diet would be harmful when my experience has been the opposite. @PaulL is correct carbs can really effect the liver especially fructose. I would search carbs and liver lots of really interesting results.

Biotin supplementation can mess with several blood tests - it’s not that the biotin itself is doing damage so much but that it can create false results. I’m not sure if liver panels are included but I do know that the FDA issued a warning some time ago. It’s worth mentioning to your doctor.

I don’t drink. I don’t smoke n no drugs except mess. take what my Dr tells me.he said no tyenol.but ibprophen is OK. I don’t even have asprin. I stopped all vits n biotin.
I feel OK except being tired EXCEPT this morning woke up at 430 am in pain.so drinking strong coffee n water.heat pad on back.
I’m gassy…my poor dogs are like woa mom haha

Thanks for the read. I don’t drink sugary drinks.or alcohol.but apparently my great grandfather who never drank in his 70syrs died of cirrhosis. But Dr didn’t say that or liver failure or fatty liver.he just said reading is off the charts.he said to quit keto.I’m like no…so more vegs less meat.I can do that.I’ll get blood work done Monday morning.
I refuse to accept I’m sick.it’s just not real to me.I still have 93 lbs tose but I’m not going to die trting .I have a son to raise n mom to take care of.I trust my Dr to fix me
