Worried about NHS / future generations

(Ellen) #1

Was at the dentist this morning which is right by a primary school, I was shocked & scared to see just how many of the kids (all under 10) were either overall fat or slimmer but with huge stomachs (I’m not meaning this in a fat-shaming way, just the truth). Admittedly it was only a small sample I saw (maybe 15 - 20 kids), but it was awful seeing how few of them were “normal” size, it seems that that generation are being born to be sick, it’s a worrying trend, hopefully Keto spreads quickly and helps them re-gain health.

Dr. Assem Malhotra is on the board of the NHS (whatever it’s called), and is doing his best to change things. He has been on the Beeb promoting low-carb, high-fat for several years now. I hope the NHS can be saved; I doubt the American health-care system is going to survive.

Yeah I heard him on the radio not too long after I started Keto, I’m hoping that more follow his lead soon.
Seeing those kids just made me want to shout at their parents that it didn’t have to be this way and they could help themselves & their kids be happier & healthier just through changing their foods.

I’m afraid he’s not on the “Board” of the NHS but is struggling to get the guidelines for diet changed. He is gaining a deal of traction but they are fighting back with a vengeance… We can but hope he will get somewhere.

Apparently he is involved with the NHS Foundation Trust. Guess I just assumed that was an official position with the NHS. Sorry!

Largely because we don’t have a health-care system. We have an acute illness fixer system. :frowning:

I know what you mean Ellen. It used to be that the occasional child was overweight, like in films where there’d be the “token fat kid”, but now it seems most of them are and it is very worrying.

Please don’t apologise…
Nothing wrong with what you wrote… so far as I know NHS Foundation Trusts are local organisations that look at the running of hospitals so he could well be on the board of one but it’s unfortunately not a national organisation what a great leader he would make!

Thanks, Mark, for clearing that up.

My wife teaches 7th graders at a troubled school in one of the poorer neighborhoods of Chicago. Lots of obesity and other signs of health issues. The school serves breakfast and lunch. A typical breakfast is skim milk, frosted flakes and raisins. Lunch often has similar macros. Behavior issues are a huge problem and I wonder how far they will continue pushing a high sugar, high starch, no fat diet before trying something new…

That must be really hard, hopefully the message will spread quicker and the failed CICO theory will die out before we have a whole generation of obese diabetic toddlers.

Until the USDA changes the dietary guidelines. If they want the federal school meal subsidy, they have to toe the line. We’re killing our children. :frowning:

We might be saving some of them. By the time they reach high school some are too fat/sick to be targeted by the military recruiters which have magnetic attraction to schools in poor neighborhoods.
