Worried about lowering metobolic rate

So, need your help. something I’m confused about.

I have been practicing eating when I am hungry. Usually, it’s twice a day. Sometimes I will eat 3 meals… but fort he most part it’s 2 times a day within an 8-hour window. It’s really more intuitive eating.

When I total my cals up for the day – I’m not even close to 1500 a day… Am I in danger of lowering my metabolic rate? I’m completely fat adapted.

Once in awhile, I’ll have a higher calorie day (keto food only) but most days I’m really not that hungry.

Thoughts? Comments – all appreciated! Thanks!

Try adding more fat to your meals to get those calories up.

Have you figured out how much carbs, protein, and fat you are currently eating?

hi Donna, Yes. I’m totally keto… most of my calories do come from fat. but I can have days when I average 800-1000 cals.

From what I understand, once fat adapted you are filling in any caloric deficit by burning the fat on your body. Do not eat if you are not hungry. If you were lowering your metabolism there are signs: hunger, fatigue, hair loss, low mood, etc.

^^^ what Liz said. There’s a big difference between calorie restricting on keto versus on carb - eating diet. Your body is using its fat stores on keto so not actually any restriction. On carbs your body is looking for more carbs, not finding enough, and not clued in to the fact that fat is a fuel and therefore deprived. KCKO

if you have fat to lose your are never in a caloric deficit. don’t worry about it.

My philosophy: I don’t guess when I can test.
If this is something that is of concern to you, then get your RMR tested and repeat it again in 3 or 4 months. I can tell you that my metabolism hasn’t slowed during all my months of fasting.

I would LOVE to be able to test myself. Fast for so many days, test every day… Looks like used RMR testers go for around US$3700… dang…
