Working out ❤

(Karla Sykes) #1

I feel so good after I workout my problem is the motivation just going and getting married. What are some of the things you guys do to stay motivated going to the gym consistently? I’ve been using this wall calendar that keeps me accountable if I set a goal or 5 miles in one week then that’s what I try to do. And what I do I don’t know about you guys I’ll go into the gym and do three miles one day and two miles another day and then not go until the following week because I had my cold. So I’m going to try to do a new goal because I know what I do in my friend to justify my actions. I’m going to hit a daily goal of 1 mile a day. What did you guys daily goals

You truly are a wonderful person @Karla_Sykes. I am so glad you have found something that lifts your mood.
I don’t do nearly enough exercise. But I like walking, especially with a friend. I have a couple of friends who are always up for a good walk and a natter. It sometimes ends as a lunch or a coffee date which is lovely too.
I am a bit of a fair weather walker, but when it’s fine I love a walk in a place of beauty with my bluetooth earpieces and some favourite music. Some good jazz and beautiful scenary always lifts my mood.
Ps, see my post on the joy of chocolate for lazy days

Hi Karla! The movement I enjoy most is taking a walk. We have a dog, so he keeps me motivated!!

Find a workout partner. It helps with accountability, because you know they are going to be there expecting you to do the same. It doesn’t take long before getting there is just part of your day and ya gotta go.

I do my workouts solo. I am not really sure what motivates me other than the really great feeling I get afterwords. It also helps that I have a ski trip starting tomorrow and need to be in shape. Once I get about two weeks of a routine in it starts to become a habit for me. I must admit that it is tough to get out of bed at 4:30 am in the winter and run to the gym, workout and then take the scenic route back home again. It works out to be 4.3 miles with a Nautilus set in the middle. I never need an alarm to wake up, its addictive!

I know a lot of people do better by going to the gym, with a partner or solo. That never worked for me. I am more consistent with a kettle bell and pilates in my home. Not having to go anywhere makes it much easier for me to just get it done. I don’t like running, but I do miss cycling. I don’t have the circumstances for it now, but a good ride is definitely good for body and mind.

Lots of different ways, your way doesn’t have to be like someone elses. I hope you get some good ideas to try out.

I personally have never had trouble getting to the gym. I have, however, changed my routines so many times over the years, that they are always “new”. I’m currently doing mainly body weight only exercises, though I still need help on pull ups and dips, so use a machine for that. I’ve also changed my aerobics and now do treadmill (aka “dreadmill”), but HIIT so it’s short. I also listen to podcasts, which makes the time pass.

Good luck in your endeavors!

If I go to the gym 12 times a month my insurance company will pay the gym dues.

(Polly) #9

Get a dog and then you have to get out and walk 5 to 10 miles every day whatever you feel like doing!

Darn. I only go 8 times a month. Usually, 3 times per week, two at the gym and one at home per week. I guess if I went to the gym on Saturdays instead of working at home, I could meet 12 times. But what if I miss a workout?

They require some form of proof like a check in record. The gym can provide that or if your gym has a web site you may be able download it yourself. There are times i go and just use the sauna . At 45 dollars a month it’s a nice reason to go to the gym !

Had one that trained me to go out every day. But I had to feed him. Had to clean up after him. Vet costs. He did not like anyone with a uniform usps, ups, fedx. He was part of the family but I did not need the extra stress. If only he could have showered and massaged me, but the gym wins.

You have to make it a habit rather than rely on motivation as the motivation won’t always be there.

#14

Yep. And a little success leads to something else like… I don’t have anything to do, I think I’ll just go to the gym and I’ll split back and chest this week.

It’s definitely habit for me. If I stop doing whatever I am doing, I am almost doomed. Not if it’s walking as it’s impossible for me not to walk anymore but when the weather is bad and my mood is horrible, I easily skip it for too long and then my mood gets even worse, my energy level drops and it will be harder to start…
But walking is fine. Weightlifting, on the other hand… I liked the novelty and was motivated first. Then it become some weak habit, my bigger weights and the knowledge it’s good for me kept up some motivation… But when I stopped, well, restarting became near impossible, it’s crazy but I just shouldn’t STOP. Without a very good reason, at least.

I don’t go to a gym, though, I prefer my home equipment (it’s enough for a lazy newbie like me. I had no money for a bench press bench (or how it is called) but I needed it so I made one. I just need to use it already, the cats love it though, especially Tofu loves sitting on it.
