Women chat

#1

Women, let’s talk keto on here. I love conversing when others join in. We were having a cool discussion in my Holy Cow thread, but I thought women might chime in here if they see the topic.

I’m 49 years old, 3 weeks in and enjoying the process. I wish we could just eat as much protein as we wanted, though. That would make this so much easier for me, personally. Alas, it doesn’t work that way so I moderate it. I am trying to figure out how much fatty meat I can get in and still remain in ketosis. I have a blood monitor so I’ll let you know what I find.
Carbs are no problem for me. I could care less most of the time, so this might be the perfect plan for me.

32yo in day 33 of keto, currently in hour 49 of my first fast- something I would never have thought I could do in a physically, mentally, and emotionally sound and healthy way.

Biggest NSV for me is stable mood and no more hanger. Sounds funny but really wasn’t. Thank God my SO could deal with me but I hated that I couldn’t control my mood it was getting scary.

I never got bloodwork done, still working on getting a primary care physician. Never really been one for doctors, but I’m pretty sure I was prediabetic considering my symptoms.

Looking forward to finding a keto friendly doctor and never looking back on my former way of life. Seriously will always miss pasta though…shirataki do not cut it for me :joy:

Shiritaki is something I can live without, too. Lordy that’s gross stuff!!!

I have a doc who thinks my 214 cholesterol was a problem so the notion of getting a keto-friendly doc appeals to me - who knows what it is now!
Actually, my cholesterol has always been “high” when I was on a carb heavy diet so maybe removing them and being in ketosis will help?
At any rate, I have a doctor through my health care provider that I go to when I’m sick, but I have a functional medicine doc who I go to for blood work and advice when I’m NOT sick. He approves of the keto diet

According to this Tim Noakes video cholesterol is inversely proportional to fat consumption

39 yr old been doing low carb keto for about 3 years. But I got really serious almost a year ago. Lost 35 lbs and was in maintenance mode. But now the weight is creeping up again and I have no clue why.
@ketoteacher1 if increasing your protein will help you stay compliant, I don’t see why not! Play around with it to see what works best for you because the one thing I have learned over the years of trying this was not everyone is the same! Plus what worked for you in the past, may not work for you now!
I am now in the phase of trying to figure out why I failed at maintenance mode. There are all kinds of theories, so its a matter of trying different things. Going back to the basics is the first step!

Nicole - will be so curious to hear what you discover if you choose to share it here.
I’ve heard of many women needing more carbs to maintain, even to the point of being out of ketosis from it. But I have no idea. I suspect that may be the case for me when I get to there because the only carbs I want/crave are more veggies than I get now in strict keto, and I’m quite active.
Thanks for the tip on protein. I have been having a bit more lately and enjoying it. I’m still producing ketones so there’s that
