What are your winter comforts?
Mine:
My fingerless gloves which I live in. My comfy winter boots when I head out into our current icelandscape, although thankfully the snow and ice appears to be melting. And lastly, my bacon and coffee with cream.

My music on my phone, oh it makes going out in bad weather so much easier (though I usually wait for somewhat better weather if I can)…
Comfy warm clothes…
And my coffee with cream in my fanciest cup!
Yes, music makes everything easier doesn’t it? If I’m cleaning house I put on music to make it more of a fun task. As to clothes, I have my warm camel puffer coat which makes me look like a caramel bear. Ooh, cream, definitely. I couldn’t go a single day without!
I can and do but since I opened this 200ml box (the day before yesterday), I drink coffee with cream a lot. I will whip the rest soon and my SO will help eating it.
Whipped cream, mmm. My big fav. I only don’t whip it all right away because I use it way more generously then and I don’t need all that extra fat until I establish OMAD.
But cream is amazing. Even the not so great and more bitter (still fine except black but not as good as my more expensive) coffee gets nice with enough cream… But I mix them all, the 2 coffees and cream and it’s just perfect, I don’t feel the difference between that and using only the expensive one and why waste money needlessly? I don’t even need coffee I just have this addiction
But it’s Christmas time now and I feel more indulging especially when the weather is bad and I have problems… I am no comfort eater (surely it happens to a small extent sometimes… but not seriously) but comfort drinker, maybe…
I will try to quit coffee in January
Or when the cream runs out and no milk is opened…
I find myself in an indulging mood too due to it being christmas and cold. So bacon, cream and cheese are my go to winter comforts. I don’t buy any expensive brands be it coffee or cream, I just buy the supermarked’s own brand, and I don’t really notice any difference, but I always choose value rather than luxury. Lately, I’ve taken to preferring the extra thick cream to the double one which is just to pour into my coffee, as it makes for a nice tremendously simple dessert.
A long, extra warm puffer coat for sure, and I just ordered another one in a medium length so I don’t look ridiculous on days when it isn’t that cold, LOL!
I want to bundle up too much to sleep but wake up hot sometimes, so I’ve started falling asleep with a heating pad that shuts off after two hours. That seems to do the trick!
A nice hot bath before bed is nice too-takes. Care of cold feet!!
I’ve been drinking a lot of decaf and chicken broth/bullion, more than usual.
@Veronica-i have coworkers that use the fingerless gloves when it is cold in the office. I should get some! They shut off the heat on the weekends, and sometimes Mondays are super cold!!!
Hi Greta, definitely get yourself some fingerless gloves, they are brilliant. I have Reynolds and have currently got chilblains on my hands, and the gloves have been such a lifesaver, they are a tight knit and gently hug the hands which seem to help also with my poor blood circulation. A long puffer coat sounds great! I’ve long since stopped caring about looking ridiculous, particularly in the winter. I’ve got a knee length coat, but I would like one to go all the way down to my ankles, without my puffer coat I wouldn’t survive this winter.
Beef stock drink, it warms me from the inside out.
Multi layers including my thick body warmer under my thick waterproof coat, thermal hat and my fur lined waterproof boots. So nice not to get cold soggy feet when i go for walks at the nature reserve.
I use a hot water bottle, I have two actually that I put in my bed to warm it before I go to bed every night. It really makes a difference! And when it gets too hot or you’re feeling warm enough you can just remove them. A heating pad sounds great too. I guess I’m more old fashion lol.
Beef stock sounds good. I warm myself with several mugs of coffee with cream and plates of bacon. I forgot to mention my beloved thermals, always treat myself to some from Marks & Spencer every winter and they’re great, I’m wearing 4 thermal layers at the moment as well as two warm jumpers over them. And it still looks fine, I don’t look like the michelin man like I used to when I just threw on a lot of baggy knits to stay warm.
Ah, I guess I am mimicking hot water bottles with my method! I never thought of that.
We never had hot water bottles when I was a kid. My mom was always the too hot/sweats easily type (not me-she always thought it was strange how I never sweat and didn’t like air conditioning when I was a kid).
I guess that’s why we never had anything like that. No electric blankets either. I always thought that sounded nice but have never gotten one.
Yes yes, the same!
This fur lined one is way warmer than the previous one was and even if there was rain days ago or not but there was humidity, the wildlife park and the other forests nearby are surely wet, it’s enough for my non-waterproof summer shoe… The warmth isn’t so important as long as I am walking and not even for long, I have nice thick socks. But for the fur one I may use thin socks. I wear a fluffy other pair in the house…
I don’t have fingerless gloves but sounds a good idea… Gloves normally annoy me as I can’t use my hands properly. ALL gloves. I rather used any destructive cleaning stuff with bare hands, that annoying. I only wear super thin gloves for hair dyeing and using rapid glue. The fluffy pair for lifting (back exercise only) and in desperation in my room but I can’t type in it so it’s short-lived…
If I see fingerless gloves, I will buy a pair!
I can’t make or buy bone broth, the super long cooked thing so that’s out but normal soups are nice. In every season. But I only have them for a short while sometimes. Normally I just drink tea, water and coffee but they tend to cool because my attention span is super short if it comes to my drink… I am used to microwave my coffee several times…
And yes, cream is so wonderful that I only go for the price. The cheapest I can get is tempting enough. I used to buy the ones with a way shorter shelf life, they had a less pronounced UHT flavor (it’s impossible to get cream without UHT) but I don’t even notice that in any now. It’s not like milk where the UHT one is horrid.
But the cheapest instant coffee is super bitter. And the other one makes a little foam and the pieces are tiny and it’s useful in chocolate where we don’t like any graininess. So I buy both. Even the expensive one isn’t THAT expensive but costs significantly more than the other one. Whatever I have now seems the best, mixing them according to my mood. Only the good one black and the more cream I use, the least important the bitterness of the coffee.
We barely got a little frost during the day. So I am still at the long-sleeved t-shirt with a cardigan phase for my walks. If it gets really cold, I use my short jackets (I even have a puffy one). Hungary simply has no cold enough winter for me to use a winter coat while I am moving (we rarely have -20C and I don’t particularly want to go out much even then). But travelling in a car in the coldest weather (we have no garage) would be tough without one. Or standing outside for long.
it’s so great while I am walking and my body generates much heat… Then I come home and need warmer clothes sometimes… Not immediately, my warmed up body is fine for a while then, my mood and energy level is better too… Exercise is useful, even just walking. And I have nice places around here. Even if it’s muddy and there is little green, I see a pond with zillion water birds nowadays…
I never used a water bottle, sounds too much bother to me, I just dress up well in the bed and soon I get warm
I had an electric pillow when we had a too cold house (we heated ALL the time and it wasn’t enough. now the house is super insulated and a mere hairdrier could heat it up. it would be loud and probably would go wrong quickly but that’s not the point)… Well, 2. The old one started to come apart and the new, fluffy one lasted for some months? Stupid modern things and their short life. I used it little and gently. It was nice while lasted but we don’t need one anymore.
I never had hot water bottles as a child, and to my memory I was never cold. It was later in my adult years I developed a sensitivity to cold. But I have read that women with lipoedema often feel cold. This possibly because the lipoedema is often associated with or linked to other vascular diseases.
Me too, my hot water bottle sits under my blanket on my lap in the evenings. Far easier to just move the hot water bottle to one side while i cool down than having the heating on and off all the time. I like to have a clear sinuses and that i find difficult with central heating. When i go to bed i refill the hot water bottle and take it with me. Also have my bed socks for the initial getting under the covers stage bit then they have to come off once my feet have warmed through … in fact generally my t shirt comes off through the night too. I have 3 duvets of varying togs, the top one is doubled over and i am constantly throwing it off me during the night, even through these -6° nights we have just been having. You can tell 8 live on my own lol … youngsters today qould probably call me a little eccentric … or perhaps even crazy woman lol bit when you live on your own it’s a needs must … and i am more than happy with the way things are as i can just please myself x

I saw some great mitts recently … they are mittenswith a removeable cover for the tips of the fingers so it can be lifted over the fingers when you need to use for phone computer of anything else and they rest of the hand stays warm and snug. They were knitted. Only reason i didnt go for them is because they only had them in mens sizes and i was really looking for xmas pressies and thought i shouldnt be buying for myself … then i go and buy the jacket in the charity shop lol. It os a gorgeous javket though and it will get worn a lot. Leather biker style with jewels decorating the sleeves and back. I will take a photo later and pop it on the carnivore thread for you to see. I got loads of compliments about it yesterday at the tea dance
I heat my room around 6pm and after midnight, it’s just fine. It’s quite warm when I go to bed and I don’t need heating until the next evening.
I take off my outer pair of sock too but I need the other one. And warm pyamas minimum. When I feel especially cold, more or less warm pullovers too. I can’t use more than a single blanket as they just get into various places… My SO is the one who sleeps in a colder room than mine naked with up to 6 blankets… I can’t handle 2!
If I am cold, it’s very often my shoulders - when it’s not my nose/hands/feet - so bottles wouldn’t help there I think. But I have no idea how people use bottles, it’s a bit odd to me.
I lived in a house where we simply almost never heated. We didn’t really live there in winter but sometimes we went home to our proper place in December. But there were huge fluffy feather eiderdowns (I just googled this word… IDK what is the difference between duvet and eiderdown but I never know what duvet is anyway). Those super big ones? They were the norm here ages ago.Well those were super farm, too bad I don’t like my nose being cold so I ended up being fully below… I always tended to hide below my blankets, I never got suffocated, of course but it can’t be ideal. But I can’t control myself well when asleep. (Not even when I am awake if I think about it but somewhat better.)
You totally should buy nice and useful stuff not even costing very much for yourself, any time if you ask me
I heat a lot today. I managed to catch a cold or something, I am not happy with my immune system
Not too bad, I am not in pain but still annoying, sometimes I can’t breath properly so it better goes away until bedtime - and I especially love heat now. Hot air, hot drinks… I woke up too early and I was a miserable one and for some odd reason I always eat when wake up super early. I needed my usual cold remedy anyway.
So I want to spoil myself now. I don’t handle even tiny suffering well…
The weather spoil me a bit, SUNSHINE! And cold and wind so going out is tricky but I probably need it. So I go for a tiny little walk soon.
I whipped my cream so my coffees are particularly nice now
Oh Shanita, hot water bottle are really nice.
For snuffly noses i use my 4head stick. Herbal. It has eucalyptus in it so i just rub it under my nostrils and it clears my snuffles instantly. Never without it! I do hope you managed to clear that nose before bed.
There is nothing worse when you camt breathe properly. Xx
Oh so the bottle has its fluffy cover, nice!
I must do a correction. My SO only has 4 blankets (3 now). My bad.
I am still low-key miserable but I am hopeful. At least I am warm
I heated my room a lot now that I am sick.
I have a poncho thingy that I use indoors when the apartment is cold. But usually, when I’m up and about, I feel warm enough anyway.
It’s when I lie down that I need to be really cozy. Flanelette sheets and lots of covers.
Right now the covers feel too heavy. I’m going to keep my eyes open in the thrift store for another duvet.
