I’m a newbie and I would like to start a chat about wins on your journey to Ketosis. “Background”
I have been sick since I was a little girl with IBS and malnutrition. As an adult my pancreas and gallbladder decided to let it be known they were unhappy, Very, VERY unhappy.
Now minus a gallbladder, part of my pancreas and a couple of ducks (just kidding quack quack) ducts removed, miss diagnosed with HBP and sent home with no idea what the heck do I do now!? Enter Cibophobia, or fear of food, loss of appetite and 20 lbs missing from my already thin body and I was at an all time low. So I did my usual internet scroll and self healed with enzymes and ox bile, low fat and sugar. Enter my best friend and this crazy diet called Ketogenics!! When I found this forum filled with like minded people, with TONS of empathy, support and information!! Talk about manifested destiny!? A whole world of like minded people inevitably spreading out together as one! I am so freakin happy you are all here!
Coming up? My win!!
Wins for Keto's with digestive problems and/or HBP
My win? 1st week on an absolute high I felt so good! Regular BM, no digestive distress, sleeping better than I have in years! 2nd week, OMG! thought I had a parasite living in my gut! Horrible digestion problems, constipation, sleeplessness and exhausted. 3rd week had been reaching out on this awesome forum looking for advice, answers, well I got it in spades! Last night I was so distraught, exhausted, starving, and manic. (I had been up since 3am )
Best suggestion from most Keto peeps? You need more salt in my diet! HBP (which I just found out I do not have) kept me away from salt for years. So this morning I put a 1/8th of a tsp of Pink Himalayan Salt in my normal 12 ounces of hot water (don’t worry I checked my bp before and several times after) and SHAZAM!! Turned my life around! Regular BM, no gas and/or bloating , drank my Keto Bomb coffee, my awesome Keto Shake and I have been up all day working on my Serenity Deck! I’m NEVER UP ALL DAY!!! EVER!!! That is a HUGE WIN for me. All of you were there for me and this is everyone’s reward. Many blessings to all of you Kool Keto’s!
What’s your win? Post it here! smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
Jody, the enthusiasm and joy in your words are beautiful. It’s wonderful that keto found you and that you found us.
I have so many wins that I could type out a thesis but my biggest win is probably my perception of living. Prior to keto, I was a miserable, chronically inflammed grouch of a person. I was only 40 pounds overweight but every day was a struggle. It seemed like my energy was gone before noon and I was running on fumes, most of the time. I honestly didn’t want to live a long life if it was going to be this painful.
After a week of keto, I woke up one morning and realized I felt amazing: no inflammation, no grouchiness and I felt energy in me like I hadn’t felt since my 20s. In the days that followed, my stamina returned, my attitude and patience improved and best of all, my outlook on living and getting older was no longer terrifying.
Every morning I wake up, I begin a new adventure. It’s not just about surviving the day any more.
Dear Carl, you just made my day! And I’m honored to hear your story and you amazing WIN! Perception on life!? What a stellar transformation! I can so relate to how you used to feel. The inflammation, grouchy is a very nice way of saying I was a total pain the arse to be around. So I just hid in bed with my misery, reading books of other people’s awesome lives…gawd . This, coming from a person who lives in Laguna Beach CA, one of the worlds most sought after destination vacation spots. I used to be at the beach with my crazy Aussie dog every day. Soaking up all those happy negative icons! Bbq every night, yoga in the morning. I was living! Then my body slammed on the brakes and said I’m done! Dont even bother taking me off the bbq cause I’m fried and inedible. 2 major back surgeries and 2 organ removals later I was a skeleton of the women I use to be. You and your win have given me such a boost of enthusiasm for what is ahead of me. Thank you for your courage, strength and perseverance. I so look forward to my new perception of life with the help of people like you.
I also have been an IBS person all my life. Going keto made me go the complete opposite direction with severe constipation, which at first felt wonderful, but quickly became a big problem. For the last month I’ve been using Apple Cider Vinegar supplements to lower my insulin and improve my ability to maintain my weight loss, and one wonderful unintended consequence is that both the IBS and the constipation are now gone, and I actually have a normal digestive tract for the first time in my life! Plus I have all the other advantages of keto - no more migraines, much lowered levels of arthritis all over my body, etc. My weight is now 112 and holding, which is perfect for my shrimpy size. I’ve been keto for 13 months now, and I’m feeling really GOOD about all this! I started keto to prevent the Alzheimers that runs very strongly in my family, and all these extra perks were a huge and welcome surprise.
Jody
I had major improvements with type 2 diabetes.
regarding IBS after six months of keto I had few weeks of almost no pain at all.
then I sled into a period of appetite loss where I got worried and I started to increase my carbs. This has lasted a week and even the carbs were not very high I think I was kicked out and gained back my appetite.
then I tried to go back to hard core keto but my IBS was still there. I am searching and experementing almost daily to reduce my IBS pain.
I should point out that I have diverticlusis which is kind of pouches in the colon.
this new section will help us exchange experience.
The heartburn I experienced for about 45 years stopped almost immediately, I think I now have more stomach acid in the right place (as opposed to the esophagus) I’ve had zero heartburn since starting keto but I think it might be from just not eating pizza, chips, bread, etc… I was on prilosec the previous five or so years and over the counter similar to tagamet for about ten years and tums before that. 45 years I dealt with it! funny thing, cucumbers don’t repeat on me anymore , migraines haven’t happened either. That’s really awesome for you Jody.
