Winning Battles with Associations, Governments, Large Companies

(Joshua Gaines) #1

For the longest time we’ve been in a ground war, starting with Phinney, Volek, Taubes, Teicholz and Cummins on the research and writing side, with Atkins, Fung, Westman, Unwin, Hallberg, Gerber, etc. treating patients successfully around the world with LCHF diets. And of course The Dudes taking the facts, science and their experiences to the people. Many thanks to all - and many of my friends and family are on a path to good health as a result. Maybe it’s because I’m known in my organization as, that guy, but is it starting to feel like we’re getting to a tipping point? Obviously it’s hard for Associations and Governments to make a 180 degree switch - companies in and around healthcare also have institutional cognitive dissonance that’s hard to overcome. That said, here’s some progress:

Swiss Re starts thinking about insuring people who used to have diabetes:

Weight Watchers makes whole eggs a “zero point” food.

ADA lists a low carb diet as one of the acceptable diets for diabetes, albeit not recommended.

Please add additional examples that you’re aware of in government, associations and large companies where the ground is shifting.

Thanks to all.

Here is one indication that they are starting listen, a little? Cognitive dissonance is alive and well!

McDonald’s Is Taking High-Fructose Corn Syrup Out of Its Buns “…The chain is responding to consumer concerns over artificial ingredients in its food. KERRY CLOSE @KERRYCLOSE AUG 2, 2016 12:11 PM EDT “… The fast food chain announced Monday that it would make some alterations to its ingredients, including replacing the high-fructose corn syrup used in its buns with sugar, the New York Times reported. It will also get rid of artificial preservatives in Chicken McNuggets and some breakfast items. …”

And to those of you who liberally spray this stuff on our food supply world wide for livelihood reasons; your killing us all including yourself? And to those who purposely put excessive sugar, HFCS’s and preservative chemicals in processed foods; you are killing all of us including yourself? the UK Sugar Tax that they’re pushing for.
Australia just had a vote on it in parliament, which was nuked by some ministers who represent sugar growing areas that are apparently the equivalent of Ohio and Florida in the Oz scheme.

I think the UK is gonna get there first. Dr. Malhotra had a good day at the EU Parliament, has some MEPs and MPs on his side from both parties… they have Diabetes.co.uk as an alternative support network to Diabetes.uk (which is basically the ADA of the UK). They have a a bigger problem than we do because of nationalized health care, and they have public results of center of care costs and results, so folks like Unwin can demonstrate his results through lowered costs and improved results.

I think in the US it’s gonna be more consumer driven, though I fully support Ms. Teicholz and Mr. Taubes as they tilt at the windmill of massive change to the dietary guidelines.

I wonder when it will really hit mainstream. The scary thing is always $$$$. When you think of the industries the SAD props up its quite a beast from grocery stores to healthcare. If everyone was to eat this way it would really turn the economy on its head.

I kinda look at following this WOE as being one of the enlightened… My dad was never “LCHF” but he always ate naturally and from his garden and quality meat. As a result he is 83 and perfectly healthy and no meds. He always warned me that processed food was for the ignorant and a way to keep people sick and dependent. Only in my thirties when I see my patients having strokes in their 40s and having two family members getting alzheimers in their 60s can I see it for myself.

It will take an economic paradigm shift that makes fossilenfuel to clean energy seem like changing socks. IF it is possible we won’t see it for.many years. And probably have to deal with other barriers we don’t see yet.

I know immgoing to cote with my mouth and for any candidate whose policy reflects the truth about our health and economic crisis we are facing.

I heard someone mention on a podcast (it’s a blur exactly where) that even the AHA has made some progress or done some back-tracking. Is that true? What change did they make?
