If I add lime juice to my water with the salt , ACV and cream of tartar. Will that affect my fasting in between meals?? I started this journey about 50 days ago and have lost 14 lbs . I have been stalled for a week. I am trying to just eat breakfast and dinner and see if that helps. I just don’t wanna mess this up.
Will lime juice affect a fast
Depends on how much lime juice. The juice from 1/2 a lime is about 2g of carbs.
I usually squeeze half a lime or half a lemon into a 2-liter container, add water, and keep it in the fridge. I will drink that usually over the course of 2 days. So I am getting 1/4 of a lime’s (or lemon’s) worth of juice per day at that rate. It’s enough to add a nice flavor and some variety compared to just drinking water.
That is so vanishingly small, carb-wise, that I wouldn’t worry about it (and I don’t).
If you wanted the juice of a whole lime in single glass of water, that’s about 4g of carbs, which might cause a small insulin response.
Thank you John. I also make it in a 2 liter bottle. Glad to hear it wont make a huge impact. Thanks again
I don’t like the taste of water, so drinking flavored water is my crutch. During the numerous fasts I’ve had, clear liquids had no impact on my weight loss. This includes lemons, ACV, bouillon cubes, Zevia, Vitamin Water Zero and other no calorie beverages. I’m not saying that these drinks have no impact on the fasting state, I’m saying it has no impact on my weight loss (compared to dry fasting).
True water only fasting doesn’t stimulate the GI system, allowing the gut biome to reset and allows physiological resources to be redirected to other systems in the body. So if the goal of fasting is to maximize healing, prevent cancer, optimize mitochondria health, etc. then drinking only water is probably necessary.
Spend 24 hours out in the desert of your choice, without anything to drink. Then water will be most delicious thing you ever tasted.
Have you tried skipping breakfast and maybe just eating lunch and dinner within, say a 6-8 hour window? Delaying your “break-fast” to lunch increases the duration of your fast.
Mike, The hard part for me is I love my coffee in the morning. Eating eggs and bacon first thing in the morning is nauseating, I may try to find an egg and cream custard recipe. Having something like that is much more convenient. Should I alternate the hours of my fast during the week or should it be that same every day??
Lime juice has some carbs, so be careful with amounts. You can also take a vegetable peeler and shave some large pieces of the rind to add to your water. The oil from the rind adds a lot of lime flavor without (I would think) the added carbs.
If you google egg loaf, you will find countless versions of this keto breakfast item. Some people find it a good substitute for French toast (if served with low carb maple syrup).
Here one that looked easy to make ahead:
sounds yummy Diane. Thank you I will try it as soon as I clean out the food in the refrig.
