I recently started checking glucose levels and a couple times I have been higher before the meal than I was 1.5 -2 hours after the meal. Why would this happen? Is it possibly just inaccurate readings? My glucose level seems to always be in the 90-105 range no matter when I take it. Is that ok or is it more desirable to be lower? I know over 100 for fasting is considered high, at least by my doctor’s office.
Why would my blood glucose be higher before eating than after eating?

Can you describe what time of day (morning? night?). Also, were you cooking and did a bit of taste testing, or were you chewing something like gum? Sometimes some factors can provoke an insulinogenic effect.

It happens later in the day- dinner. I can’t remember details of the first time, but the second time was last night. I was cooking but hadn’t tasted anything. It was still a half hour away from being done and usually any tasting happens right before I serve it. I did get some maple syrup on my finger from something I was making my kids, but I resisted the temptation to lick it off and instead washed my hands. No gum, but I did have a big glass of water.
