I have always really appreciated the Keep Calm and Keto On saying, because this way of eating is not super seemless to slide into. It takes education, trial-and-error and sometimes you get sugar or hidden carbs without even knowing it. There are social events, restaurants, and frequent side-eyeing from family and friends that all have to learned how to navigate.
But the keep calm keto on is the BEST saying! Because if you heed that advice, it has been my experience that you WILL succeed.
I am a perfectionist (working on that character trait cuz who needs it?) and I have felt frustrated and like quitting several times. But KCKO has entered my brain so many times, and that’s what I did instead
I just got back from my first weekend (or any) trip away and actually still had ketones. I have learned, slowly and through a lot of mistakes to just brush myself off and KEEP. GOING. I have learned how to avoid sauces in restaurants in lieu of butter. I have learned the hardest thing for me - what to order when you want to moderate protein but increase fat. I have learned that protein won’t screw me up and it’s a better choice than carbs and it’s all going to be ok.
I’m really proud of myself for coming home with ketones still in my blood. Not that it’s all about those, but it IS evidence to me that I did just fine. I had glorious meals of eggs and sausages, burger with jalapeno jack, avocado and siracha mayo, brussels with bacon and a side of butter, and coffee with HWC. This whole thing required ZERO restrction or willpower. I was well fed, felt terrific, and am right on track here back at home!
