Why I won't plan a cheat day again

So yesterday I went to the farmer’s market. I’ve been going with friends for 10 years. We eat breakfast there and shop. Yesterday I decided Saturday’s would be my cheat day.

Then while watching keto videos on Youtube I found this:

Getting back to ketosis after a cheat

Dr. Berg pegged me. I’m a 62-year-old female who has been dieting for years. So, it may take me a week (or longer) to get back to ketosis. The cheat really wasn’t worth a week out of ketosis.

Next week I’m going to get bacon and eggs, something my Paleo friend got with no problem.

One of my RL friends who started keto about the same time we started podcasting says he likes to cheat with keto food. I mean keto food that he really enjoys, but shouldn’t have too much of. Like macadamias, or chocolate mousse.

That’s a cheat I could get behind! I think my kind of cheat (at least for me) is a mentality holdover from Weight Watchers. They gave you a weekly point allowance beyond the daily total for use whenever you felt you needed it. I used to have a cheat day based on those extra points.

There’s really nothing out there food-wise that I want that I probably couldn’t find a keto substitute. I need to break the Saturday = cheat day cycle and just keep ketoing on.

Yup

BTW: Jules and I both did weight watchers for a year back in like '96. The fat and fiber points plan. Yeah it was a waste of time for us.

My mom lost hundreds of pounds on WW in the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Was she able to keep it off?

i think that means that she lost and gained and lost and gained over the decades

My hat’s off to anyone who can lose (and keep it off) with WW. I lost 50 pounds the first time (of three) I joined. I can eat keto without tracking, but WW offers free on-line tools for those who make their goal weight and remain within 2 pounds of that goal.

I lost 60 on WW but then gained about 70 back again. It worked great when I was in my late 20s and early 30s.

For keeping weight off keto it is a better tool for me that’s for sure. Although I still have to watch total intake as I age, I would not want to go back to those WW rooms

I have never been just as bad as I did on WW, probably because of the low fat and the grains together. Ugh

The last 15 years I’ve lost 100’s of pounds, if you don’t count the same 100s I gained back. Not this time!!!

No, she was a serial yo-yo dieter. A bad attempt at humor on my part.

I suspect everyone who has done WW got the joke

I find that I “cheat” with stuff like peppers and onions and bratwurst… they can be a bit more carby than a normal keto day… but some steak w/onions and fried over easy eggs… soooo good… Maybe sometimes i’ll have a bit more of the Halo Top than the serving size suggests, we do not really keep it in the house as it is pricey and the boys will eat it while we are not looking…
