My friend who started keto a week ago, asked me what have been my strategies to avoid sugar cravings and overeating on non-keto/unhealthy food. I linked her the page from where i learned how to understand my cravings and how to avoid that bad habit of overeating. It helped me a lot, so i wanted to share it on this forum, because maybe there is still someone who struggles with the same problem. I hope it helps you too.

Try getting rid of anything that might lead to temptation. Fill the pantry and fridge with keto stuff and get rid of the chips and cookies. When they get an overwhelming craving eat some high fat nuts, a boiled egg, some cheese or some pork rinds. Teach the body that fat is what it’s gettting when it starts pouting for carbs.

As for overeating, when preparing food make exactly what you think you should eat with no leftovers. I find that I really enjoy keto food and I could keep eating just because it tastes good and I don’t feel full. But feeling full is not necessary to have eaten enough. When it’s 8 or 12 hours after I last ate (when I didn’t feel full) and I’m still not hungry, then I know what I ate was enough. This really takes some time to develop the willpower to say “that’s plenty”. I know because I used to eat until I was stuffed.
