Why are you a ketonian? (Poll)

(Guardian of the bacon) #1

I thought a little poll would be fun and as I have nothing but time on my hands I thought I’d put one together.

What is your primary reason for following a ketogenic diet?
The results remain anonymous.

  • To cure / reverse T2D
  • To cure other major physical ailments (cancer, epilepsy, etc)
  • To cure mental health issues (Alzheimer’s, depression, anxiety, etc)
  • To cure Hormone issues
  • To lose weight
  • To just feel better overall
  • As a preventative measure to disease

You could also add for me a primary reason would be:
“To avoid getting any of above issues”

I chose my primary reason but would definitely choose a couple of these if able!

#1- cure hormone issues
#2- lose weight

(Nathan Hall) #6

Came for the weight loss, stayed for the health of it.

(Jessica) #7

Primarily to lose weight, but with the added benefits of being fat adapted, ease of fasting and the wealth of health benefits fasting can bring.

First phase was I wanted to lose weight. The second, stave off disease. My dad is T2D, his dad was and my grandfather on my mom’s side was. I don’t want that to happen to me!

I’m primarily aiming to prevent diabetes, but also even more beneficial and offering immediate results is relief from depression.

(Rose) #10

I started because I wanted to fix my out-of-control T2D and lose weight. Now, I stay keto because I feel so fantastic almost every day of my life. No more migraines, no more depression, no more exhaustion.

I did the original Atkins in 1972 and lost 45 pounds. Then I strayed away from this WOE, and at 61, I have sore knees and I’m now about 100 lbs overweight. I want to lose the weight, keep other diseases and health issues at bay and I want my energy back.

(Julie Cooley) #12

I also want to prevent getting type two diabetes and everything else that goes with that disease, because my mom passed away recently because of complications
From this disease which runs in my family.

I started to lose weight but it’s turned into everything.

I was on a diabetic roller coaster for 13 years. I could not find any stability. I was completely frustrated and increasing my meds. I found Keto in my search for help. I have been Keto for 7 months now and I have stabilized. My numbers are slowly going down in a predictable manner. If I try too many veggies, it shows up in my numbers, but I can cut back without feeling deprived. The 2 Keto Dudes have been a great support and inspiration. I am much smarter now in handling my disease. Thank you forum!

Losing weight was numero uno for me, but I’m also interested in cancer prevention and the athletic benefits from fat adaption. Then there’s the hormone balancing, clearer skin and less obsessing over food. Lots of good stuff from keto!

Man, I’m on keto to get a bod for the ladies. Didn’t see that option anywhere!

JK. Love my health too.

The ladies love us as deranged as we are…it’s what’s on the inside that counts…:smirk:

(Siobhan) #18

To lose weight, but I selected “preventative measure” because it wasn’t so much the weight as the health complications that can come from the cause of weight gain.
Later, I kept at it to keep my blood sugar down (still losing weight, but was on the way to T2D and don’t want anywhere near that).

(Connor L) #19

I’m trying to fix my insides too!

(jim schafer) #20

it was a toss up between lose weight and reverse type 2 diabetes…because i think getting rid of some of that internal fat around the organs will make them work better which will help with the diabetes…but my biggest concern is diabetes…having a bit of extra weight is fine by me as long as i’m “Healthy”.
