I’ve been doing keto for 17 days and in the last 6 days I’ve been getting really full after a meal. I find I don’t need to eat very much. Especially the last two days. Like today for lunch I had two hard boiled eggs, with 20 grams of cheese and a slice of salami and I’m now so full that I am almost uncomfortable. It’s weird, I’ll be hungry just before I eat but after a few bites I get quite full. In the past I would only get this full if I had eaten the majority of a pizza or a big helping of fish and chips or something. I’m fuller for much longer. I only consume about 1100 to 1300 calories a day but if I ate anymore I would be nauseous. The uncomfy feeling goes away after about half an hour.
Why am I so full on keto
Because your brain is off the sugar (all carbs are sugar). That means that the signal between you but and your brain is working again…so, you now feel full when you ARE full…no more insulin roller coaster ride.
I think everyone must go through this. I know I did…
When I was first learning about keto and eating this way, I thought anyone doing fasts must be really “hard core” fanatic. But, when feeling full started to happen…I was fasting naturally.
This is one of the big benefits. I am OMA and fast longer about once every couple weeks. Not a problem, not an issue.
Don’t you love autocorrect? It thought I wrote… the signals between your GUT and your brain.
Hehehe
You are normal Aimee
funny thing is this is a real life, natural body function and you are now feeling it normal because your body is being fed…ta da…nutrition it wants and uses and is getting all it needs and doesn’t need more when it doesn’t require it
You found a very great place to be actually LOL
I eat slower now. I used to woof down pizza fast. I would woof down so much junky food in no time. Your body keeps asking for food thru insulin spikes and crashes and it gets crappy nutrition, you can eat a ton and still be straving your body of nutrition. On my meat I eat slower cause if I woof I could over do food in my tummy real fast…so I eat slower, judge how great I feel, do I need more and take it from there. It is actually nice to take time to ‘feel’ my food. Get the nutrition it wants easily.
You have a happy body now Just enough that good nutrition you are giving it and just eat til you are full and let it all just happen naturally.
You are truly doing very well. Congrats!
Yeah I’ve heard that carbs and sugar trick our brain into thinking we are hungry, even if we are full. It’s very interesting. I must say, it’s great to not feel hungry all the time.
Auto correct has embarrast me SO many times. I’m constantly having to recheck my words even on here Oh I get it “Your butt and your brain” good one. That’s classic
Thanks F, this us the very first time in my entire life that I have done a diet/lifestyle properly without restricting and starving myself on purpose. No wonder I never lasted long. When I did Keto (without support or research) three years ago. I abused the hell out of it and I would go two weeks with it and lose 2 pounds a day and be freaking starving hungry 24/7. I dreamt about food, I used to look up pictures of junk food on Google and daydream about them. I would make my partner yummy food and then sit beside her and smell it. Yeah it sucked. My stomach was constantly gurgling and eating itself. Yes I got thin but was it worth it? Nope. I lost muscle mass, my hair was falling out in clumps, I was freezing cold in the middle of summer and sitting in front of a heater on a hot day. It hurt to sit down, it hurt to stand up, it hurt to lie down. My lips were turning blue. Then it would get too much and I would eat an entire pizza and my body would go into shock and I would be violently sick. From no carbs, no sugar and no calories to a shit tonne of the lot. Then I would feel terrible and repeat the cycle. I was so full after that yummy salami goodness today that when dinner came around, all I could eat was one chicken drumstick and had to leave all the rest. I hate wasting food, but if I had taken another bite I would have felt sick. I only had 600 calories today and I know that’s crap all but it was so not planned. So I had two eggs, a peiceof salami a chunk of cheese, coffee with heavy cream and a drumstick. It’s amazing, this way of living. You get to eat salami and t bone steaks and get healthy and not be hungry. I’m quite blown away!! . I wish I could sleep a bit longer at night though. I hate this insomnia. Oh by the way on the eating slow thing. So do i. I like to enjoy the taste and not just wolf it down like a hound does. Plus if you eat slower you get to find out when your full and stop. Instead of gutsing it down and then feeling sick. Xxx
Yea it is amazing when the right combination of eating can literally make a person be shocked. The old ‘diet’ of low fat/low kcals would starve people…it did me I couldn’t do it. The minute someone said eat only 1200 kcals I was like…that is no food, who is anyone kidding here, I can’t survive on that…so then I would fast and starve and then binge eat like you. Yea I had those troubles big time also.
Til that day I hit low carb and learned all about how to eat properly.
And properly is not moderation with a crap ton of carbs in your life.
Take out those carbs and give the body what it needs, protein and good fats and you thrive. It is truly amazing but it is just a real natural way to eat…who knew HAHA
Your sleep will come around. Just keep doing what you are doing. If you need to nap in the day then do it. Any time you feel tired, just relax and get thru it. Nibble some food. Just treat your body as you need and your sleep will stabilize. You are changing your body a lot and asking for big healing, hey it is gonna be funky with ya in something, like maybe your sleep LOL but in the end it will normalize for you and you will be a whole new you
The others probably write down why it has a big chance on keto.
But it happens with you because you are that type. My hunger changes little in ketosis (a bit better though, carbs make me hungry. Carnivore works way better than my old, carbier keto) and never could get satiated with a tiny meal under normal circumstances.
I need somewhat big meals on keto just like many other people.
And it may be very different in the first days, after fat adaptation or just choosing different food or eating at different times.
I know it’s crazy. The world has it drummed into their heads to eat plenty of carbs and fruit and limit the fats and protein. When in reality, our ancestors 1000 years ago lived on fat and protein. They only ate plants and fruits if there was a meat scarcity or to fatten up before a famine. The world has it all wrong. I only eat about 1200 calories but not on purpose. I went up to 1300 the other day but if I’m always feeling satisfied my body must be fine with that amount. I used to only have 50 calories to 100 when I had a disorder. So in comparison to that it’s great. Yeah I’m sure my sleep will return, as you know my body is in a state of shock from also giving up very strong painkillers so I’ll get there. I can’t nap during the day, I tried once but just layed there and gave up. I wish I could get my partner on this lifestyle but she’s such a sugar addict. She puts 4 teaspoons in each coffee, 4!! I can’t see her giving it up. I’m 18 years her junior but I’m very protective of her and act like I’m the older one. Maybe one day she will join me. It would do her the world of good she eats carbs and sugar and always feels tired for that reason. Oh well, each to their own. I know you have to be ready to start anything or it just won’t work.xx P.s I watched a horse show tonight and I cried my eyes out, what a big sook!!
It’s just part of the diet. I try to OMAD my last meal most days, but had a day off work yesterday and ate a small lunch of mostly meat. I was planning to eat my regular meal, but got sidetracked with second job and just decided to skip my regular meal. I wasn’t hungry at all and that was on very few calories. I’m still not hungry this morning and will OMAD today. I will eat three meals and up my calories this weekend to not let my body adapt. It’s crazy how food doesn’t have the same importance in life once the constant hunger goes away.
I know what you mean. The first week I was hungry a lot but yeah that just started to go away.Yeah I still love food but I don’t really think about it unless it’s time for a meal. I don’t do the regular three meals a day thing. I eat if my gut is growling and empty. Xx

The old ‘diet’ of low fat/low kcals would starve people…it did me
I couldn’t do it. The minute someone said eat only 1200 kcals I was like…that is no food, who is anyone kidding here, I can’t survive on that…
I can relate except I didn’t even try. I don’t do low-fat and 2000 kcal is already so very little food (I can’t eat this tiny amount on a carby diet, mind you, I did it on a disciplined enough low-carb and later on keto quite often but not always), it’s a decent, borderline big meal in my books, with not much fat! (My idea about much fat might be unusual.)
So I rather kept my bodyfat, not like I had any other options until I figured out things. It’s not like I was some unhealthy obese person but if I was, no calculator would have told me to eat 1200 kcals for a slow loss (I hope)… Only people say so but for EVERY woman in general. Do those people stop to think ever?
But 1200 kcal and carbs might be fine for someone, sure. I don’t get it but we are different. Each to their own. But it’s sad to see people who might be like me just more “strong” suffering with 5 tiny carby meals at 1200 kcal.
I have to step back at times and imagine how our ancestors ate. Yeah they ate fruit but there were no orchards and were probably limited to some berries for a few weeks. I have some large tree like bushes in my neighbors yard and when the several hundred thousand berries ripen the birds strip it clean in a few days. This also causes what I call “purple rain” and really pisses me off but that a whole other story. Anyway the natural fruits were short lived and we had much competition for them. Come to think of it the whole vegan or vegetarian WOE would not even be possible IMO without the year round availability of our current distribution system.
Back to feeling full. I can remember a big carb loaded breakfast followed by a snack or another breakfast (insert McDonalds McGriddle sandwich here). Lunch was an entire sub or sandwich with a bag of chips washed down with a sweet drink. Dinner was alway with potato if it wasn’t pizza night. Now my carb free breakfast lasts until lunch and I am not even hangrey. Lunch is minimal carbs. Dinner a 5oz steak and three asparagus spears and I am full. I am much more comfortable this way. Its the new normal!

Hahaha same, was always hungry when I ate junk. And always felt bloated and sluggish. I wake up and have a coffee for breakfast but I don’t get hungry for food until lunch time and then I’m stuffed until about 7pm and have dinner and then I’m done for the day. If I’m hungry I eat but if I’m not I won’t force it. Could only eat a quarter of my meal tonight and even had to force that down. Had to stop cos I was starting to feel like I was gonna puke and no way am I eating to the point where I be sick.. I think it must have been the salami I ate for lunch, it was so filling. Just a 50 gram serving with two eggs and a peice of cheese did me for the whole day. It’s 12 hours later and I’m still not hungry at all. And on the birds pinching your fruit topic, yup I know what that’s like
. We had a place in the rainforest with every fruit tree you can think of and not only did birds pinch all the fruit but so did the fruit bats. Plus my dog would get up earlier than me and pinch all the passion fruit
Blockquote
I’ve also read in the past where current fruits have been manipulated to be much sweeter than the hunter and gatherers would of normally come across. The fruits you find in grocery stores are the sweetest available, so as far as “having fruit” in your diet the fruits we eat have a maximum amount of natural sugars in them. The hunter and gatherers would of just eaten whatever they came across.

Me, too - and I used to love eating mass quantities of food. I look at a family member who is obese, and she is a “grazer” and will stop after a small amount of stuff. I was never like that.
I used to go to all you can eat buffets with the mentality that “I am going to get my moneys worth” Now I just load up on bacon sausage and some eggs. Last one the someone said “you must really like bacon”
That’s hillarious cos so did I. There was a place called Sizzler and it was all you can eat. We would all go in as a family and have like 5 meals each and desert until we felt F##king ill and could barely move. Had to get our money’s worth!!
I think it was Dr Jason Fung that gave the example that when you’re almost full when eating carbs, you could probably eat a couple of desserts, or another slice or two of pizza. But if you were asked if you wanted to eat two more pork chops you’d likely cringe. It’s the way that our bodies use/recognize carbs. Good news is that you can start trusting your hunger again.
Cheers!
