ok I’ve added tons of fat to my diet, bacon butter mayonnaise oils heavy cream and protein still not seeing results. Am I over thinking it? I started back in late February early march weight loss is at a complete halt. i struggle to keep my body in ketosis. I’m not consuming sugar or sugar free stuff, I don’t use the fake sure at all so not sure what’s causing me to not stay in Ketosis. I keep seeing the success stories and I’m getting discourage. I know this is a lifestyle change and I also know everyone is different and lose weight at a different rate but i just want to see the scale move, or my cloth fitting looser , what can i be doing wrong:thinking:
Why am I not seeing results
Are you absolutely sure you are 20 carbs or under? It is surprising how that amount can add up! Are you tracking the carbs every day? I just started three weeks ago and I really have to check daily to make sure I am not going over.
I also have similar issues with the weight loss being very slow and difficult. I’ve done a lot of research to figure things out. Here are my best ideas for you:
-
Track your food for a few days. I wasn’t a tracker of food until my doctor wanted to see how I was eating because I wasn’t losing very quickly. I didn’t have ways to check ketones until recently. Whilst tracking and eating fully ketogenic I was shocked to see that small amounts of keto things were adding up to carbs being 30-40 in a day when I didn’t really think I was that high.
-
There is a great discussion and image of keto being the wedge that keeps weight gain from happening while fasting helps you actually lose the weight.
-
Insulin resistance and those of us who are metabolically deranged have to heal and gain new insulin sensitivity and lower insulin levels to keep tapping into our stored energy sources.
-
Change things up! Fast and feast and don’t have a set schedule.
It would also help to know some info about you, such as height, weight, eating schedule, etc.
Also making sure you are eating enough food. I was also shocked that on days I thought I’d had a lot calorically I was not even close.
As a rule, anytime someone comes to the forum and is looking for help losing weight, the very first thing I want to see is a food diary. Tell us what you eat in a typical day.
Once we know what you’re doing everyday, day to day, we can help you address specific issues
To add to what @Lesliemont was asking; what are your weight goals? Where are you now and where do you want to be?
Agreed, too much information missing to really be of much help.
Are you fat adapted? Do you feel like your body is doing well running on fat or do you feel like you’re still adjusting? In the initial stages of keto, you need to really eat a lot of fat to teach your body that it has a huge fuel supply that’s not carbs. It figures things out but sometimes it takes a while. After becoming fat adapted, sometimes people find that they need to dial back the fat a little so that the body goes looking for fuel from within, not just from what’s being eaten with the meals. (It’s not as popular of an idea but Ted Naiman talks about some of his patients that go overboard on the fat and can’t lose weight. That’s if your fat adapted, though.
How is your protein? After carbs being low, getting an appropriate amount of protein is really the next thing to figure out. Too much or too little can both be a problem. Again, no information to go on to even take a guess. (Age, sex, and a few other things can make a difference, too.)
Are you getting any exercise? Too much? Marathons? Sedentary? Believe it or not, heavy levels of exercise are sometimes counter-productive in the beginning but again, nothing to go on.
Anything going on in the medications or hormones department? Those can be a minefield.
Hope you can get it figured out. It’s frustrating when the scale doesn’t move and we think we’re doing everything we know to do.
Hi, don’t despair. I’ve been keto and fasting(in ketosis the whole time) since 1/10 and lost almost nothing(5 lbs). The Dudes and the forum have helped me stay strong. I confirmed my insulin resistance yesterday and while I must have been way worse in January, I’m at a tipping point, still at an insulin level that won’t allow me to use fat stores. I expect that to start to happen in the near future with fasting as my tool. I didn’t feel any signs of fat adaptation as some folks mention here but I’ve never had hunger and feel pretty physically and mentally good all the time, including before keto. I would say I’d have to be adapted after like 17 weeks of keto! Take the advice here and make sure to cover your research bases with Dr. Fung and The Dudes’ podcasts. KCKO❤️
For those of you that are having trouble losing weight. Is that typical for you? What was the primary reason for starting keto?
I’ve lost 60lbs in the past on Atkins, 45 on HCG, probably hundreds over the years low cal and low carb. Just last summer before doing much research I did keto for 5 weeks and lost 2.66 lbs per week. Now, with all my new knowledge, strict keto and fasting, nothing! My main objective was weight loss at the start but now I’m in it for the long haul. Want the health benefits and to reverse IR and hopefully take off 55 pounds for good. Do you have further wisdom for me?
Keen to see some responses speculating as to why. I hit my weight goals in less than half the time I expected, and kept them off, even after going back to targeting 50-100g of carbs. My wife hasn’t seen any weight loss in that time, despite the fact we eat virtually the same, in terms of meals, if not serving sizes. She normally serves herself about 2/3rds of what she serves me. I also don’t know if she snacks at work.
Of course, we’re different heights and builds, and that will contribute, but I am amazed how easy it was for me, and ineffective it was for my wife. Do some people simply not respond? She’s sticking with it regardless, as she had gestational diabetes, and her doctor told her to watch her sugar intake. After reading a whole lot of material I sent her, she decided to expand that to all carbs. So hopefully, even without weight loss, she’s benefiting from increased insulin sensitivity, but we’ll see.
There was a keto woman podcast episode sometime on the last month or two that was exclusively about gestational diabetes.
If I knew the name, I would certainly give it to you. However, I do remember the woman that was interviewed giving a whole lot of personal information as to why she still struggled, in an unusual manner, to get keto to work for her.
I encourage you to listen to the keto woman podcast for answers to your wife’s specific issues
I hope you find this helpful
Keep calm and keto on
It’s I the gender thing. Different hormones, different weight/fat storage. We’ll survive a famine though!
well for me, i have to say it started for weight loss, now its more of a lifestyle change. I want to be on a diet/eating regimen and stay on it for life. I’m very picky eater, this diet is easiest for me to follow because most of the food choices i like.
what is fat adapted? I see that everywhere and i’m not sure exactly what it is. how do I know if i am. complicated.
I just listened to a podcast that addressed this very topic as related to women. It is “the Naturally Nourished” podcast episode 75.
I feel like we think there should be a one size fits all approach. That may not be the case for a small percentage of people. I also feel like it’s really important to continue to learn and to try to maximize the food you’re eating and customize it to fit your body and your metabolism and your specific composition. I think there’s a lot that each of us can do to continue to adjust and improve not only the percentage of things were eating but also the nutrient density of the foods and help or foods work better with our bodies .
How are your stress levels and activity levels? These things can factor, but you may have to break a plateau. Your body is resisting weight loss for some reason. If it doesn’t resolve within a month i would speak to your dr.
