I have been on keto for almost 3 months but this past week I’ve been in ketosis but I haven’t lost any weight. I am not sure it is something I’m eating or if it is just a mini stall (which is bound to happen). This past Saturday I did do some drinking but still keep my macros in mind along with staying in ketosis. Would of that affect me, now being Wednesday?
Why am i not loosing more weight?
Who knows? It’s so complicated. Some items interfere for many people. Sometimes you do just the right things and your fat reserves surely gets better and better but you see that only later on the scale. Once I was waiting patiently for 2 weeks. My body is simple enough in such things, I was absolutely sure I am losing and I did just slowly and it suddenly showed at some point. And sometimes there is no weight-loss as one eats too much for that.
It’s hard or impossible to figure out what happens but do your best and be patient. Maybe if you drink again, you will see if that affect your weight again…
You have been ‘on keto for almost 3 months’ but this past week ‘in ketosis’… does not compute. Generally, you’re in ketosis within a few days after cutting carbs to sub-20 grams per day. If you start with a water fast, you’ll get there a little sooner. So were you really eating ‘keto’ or not? It’s important, because stuff happens when you’re in ketosis that otherwise does not.
You haven’t lost any weight during almost 3 months, or only during the past week? Meaning you lost some weight the first couple of months but stopped last week. Generally, when you start keto you lose some water weight at first. That comes off rather quickly for most folks. Once that’s gone, the more difficult part begins: burning off body fat. That’s a slower and non-linear process. If you mean you have not lost any weight for all 3 months, that’s different. Keto is a metabolic normalization process, not a quick weight loss diet. A lot of stuff happens when you start keto, all at once. Sometimes other stuff takes precedence over weight loss and weight stabilizes to let it happen.
It might. When you consume ethanol, your metabolism stops all other processing to utilize the ethanol exclusively. This occurs simply because ethanol is the most easily utilized fuel you can consume. Depending on your body size/weight, how adapted you are to ethanol and how much you drank on Saturday, it’s quite possible the ethanol burn affected you into mid-week. This is doubly possible if you drank carbs along with the ethanol (beer, wine, mixed drinks all have substantial carbs) because once the ethanol was burned, your metabolism started converting the carbs into glucose.
There’s a lot of individual variability. Generally, if you stay sub-20 grams of carbs per day, minimize ethanol consumption for at least the first several months or a year on keto, you will be consistently in ketosis. If so, what must happen for you will happen. Maybe not as fast as you wish nor exactly as you imagined.
I understood you Anita. You haven’t lost any weight for a week and you are in ketosis. So one week without change is not stalling. If I’m right you didn’t have much left to lose unless I’m confusing you with another woman. You had “drinks” but stayed keto. Alcohol depending on how much can hold weight loss back for a bit. Like a couple days maybe. I think you’re doing fine, a stall actually is considered six weeks or more. You just had a stutter. It’s more like going down stairs, down 2 up 1 down 3 your body will not be linear about it. The last bits are harder to get rid of and being a woman it might be harder still.
David, you’re so much better explaining stuff than I am.
